Obituary For Jane R. Ulwick

Jane Rosemary (Manton) Ulwick

Jane Rosemary (Manton) Ulwick, 64, of Pembroke, Massachusetts, passed away at home on October 19, 2026, following a long and hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in 1962, Jane grew up in Hingham, Massachusetts, where she graduated from Hingham High School before attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Following college, Jane embraced her adventurous spirit, traveling throughout Europe with friends and collecting stories and memories along the way. Never one to shy away from a little excitement, she loved roller coasters, jumped out of airplanes, and approached life with a fearless enthusiasm that was uniquely her own.

Jane was truly one of a kind. Funny, fiercely strong, wonderfully stubborn, and always the life of the party, she had a gift for making people laugh and making everyone around her feel welcome. She spent her career as a bartender where she was known just as much for her personality and listening ear as she was for the drinks she poured. When someone told her she looked familiar, she would laugh and say it was probably because they'd seen her behind a bar somewhere on the South Shore.

For Jane, bartending was never just a job. She had an extraordinary ability to turn strangers into regulars, regulars into friends, and friends into family. Her larger-than-life personality even earned her a fan club during her time at TGI Fridays, affectionately known as the "JFC," complete with its own newsletters. It was a fitting tribute to a woman who could make an impression on just about anyone she met.

Outside of work, Jane was endlessly creative and happiest when she was making something beautiful such as flower arrangements for special occasions including her daughter's wedding or just because she was coming over for dinner. She loved the beach, especially the shores of Martha's Vineyard, where she collected seashells that she would later transform into her signature handmade Christmas wreaths.

Jane was also an exceptional cook, though anyone hoping to recreate one of her dishes quickly learned that asking for a recipe was a lost cause. She proudly refused to follow recipes or write down her own, preferring instead to cook by instinct, creativity, and whatever inspiration struck her in the moment. It was simply the way Jane lived her life: doing things her own way and somehow making them even better.

Behind Jane's quick wit and larger-than-life personality was an incredibly intelligent woman with an impressive wealth of knowledge. She was an avid Jeopardy! fan, and watching the show each evening with her husband became one of their favorite traditions. The two would compete to see who could answer the most questions, though Jane was something of a Jeopardy! champion in her own right.

Of all the roles Jane held throughout her life, none meant more to her than being a mother and grandmother. She loved her family fiercely and unconditionally, and that love was evident in everything she did. Her daughter, Dana, was the light of her life and her spitting image. To Dana, Jane was so much more than a mother. She was her best friend, her biggest cheerleader, and her greatest role model. As the mother of Michael, Jane provided a lifetime of extraordinary care, patience, and devotion. She was his fiercest advocate, his constant source of comfort, and his unwavering protector. She faced every challenge with determination and strength, always ensuring Michael received the love and care he deserved.

By her side though life’s joys, trials and tribulations was her husband, Russell, whose unconditional love, endless laughter and unwavering support were a constant source of strength. Their marriage was something truly remarkable - they overcame all of life’s hurdles together and remain a beautiful example of love who showed us the importance of true friendship through marriage.

Jane's love extended into another generation with her granddaughter, Mia, who brought a special kind of joy to her life. Being a grandmother was a role she cherished deeply. Through Mia Jane, a piece of Jane's spirit, strength, and unmistakable personality will live on, along with the legacy of a woman who loved deeply and gave so much of herself to those who mattered most.

Though her absence leaves an immeasurable void, her stories, traditions, and the countless lives she touched will ensure that her spirit lives on. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and undoubtedly the subject of many stories told over a drink, just the way she would have wanted.

She is survived by her husband Russell who she was happily married to for exactly 35 years to the day, son Michael Ulwick, daughter Dana Ulwick Rogantino, son in law Andrew Rogantino and her granddaughter Mia Jane Rogantino. She is also survived by her brothers Stephen Manton and Paul Manton, sister in law Kirsten Manton, and nieces Alison Manton and Kara Manton. Jane was predeceased by her parents Kevin Manton and Elizabeth (Tubman) Manton as well as her brother Michael Manton.

I met Jane and Russ at the beginning of her fight. We made a connection right away. Her and Russ always found humor in every situation. Humor was the best and most effective coping mechanism. I will cherish the memories, laughter, and support she gave me, even in her toughest days. Wishing you peace Jane, a champion fighter. Russ, Dana, Michael and Mia you have an angel watching over you who will have your back in every challenge of life. May you all find comfort in the memories you share. With love, your favorite nurse- Jenna💗💟
