Obituary For James W. Dennehy

James Westley Dennehy 83, of Rockland, Ma., formerly of Quincy,Ma., went home to the Lord supported by his family on August 4,2025 after a long, laborious battle with multiple acute health issues.

Born on January 3,1942 at Quincy City Hospital to the late Virginia (Browne) Dennehy-Rush and the late Kevin Dennehy, Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Jean Dunphy-Dennehy, his two children. Patrick and Patricia Dennehy of Rockland, his grandchildren, Shane and Allison Dennehy of Abington, and the late Kelley McDougall and his two great grandchildren,, Bella and Mark Richardson. Jim was predeceased by his late wife of Forty nine years, Rosemary C (Primavera) Dennehy. Jim is also survived by the entire Primavera family including many nieces and nephews.

Jim attended North Quincy High School and served four years in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Farragut, DLG-6. Following his time in the Navy, Jim worked in many different industries and finished up his career with twenty years as a Mobil Oil Dealer in Hanover, Ma.

Jim was an avid golfer spending many years as a member of Presidents’ Golf Course in Quincy, Ma., and in more recent years as a member of the Rockland Golf Course.

Jim was also a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and The New England Patriots. He enjoyed all sports and loved to discuss them with everyone around him!

At the time of his marriage to Jean, Jim converted to Catholicism going through the R.C.I.A. Program receiving all of his sacraments. and coming into full communion in his faith journey at the Easter Vigil in 2013. Following his conversion, Jim became an active member. of Holy Family Parish and felt a real sense of belonging, developing a deeper faith through daily mass. Jim’s faith journey sustained him in his many health crisis. Two days before his death, Jim received the beautiful Sacraments the Church offers to prepare us for death. Upon receiving the Last Rites of the Church, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation he said: “I am ready to go home, I am not afraid of dying.”

The Dennehy family welcomes friends and family on Thursday, August 14, 2025 to gather at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union Street Rockland, Ma. at 8:00 a.m. for a time to greet the family, share a few memories and reflect on the life of this good man. A funeral mass will immediately follow at 9:00 am in Holy Family Church 403 Union Street, Rockland, Ma. Burial services will follow at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Jim to the IMCU Unit in care of South Shore Health Foundation 55 Fogg Road., South Weymouth, Ma. 02190. Or to St. Vincent DePaul in care of Holy Family Parish 403 Union Street, Rockland, Ma. 02370

A special thank you goes out to the remarkable staff of the Pratt 6 IMCU unit at South Shore Hospital . The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to every member of the staff for the care given to our Jim. The compassion and the love that was extended to Jim and to the family members went beyond sll expectations. You are all amazing professionals and we are eternally grateful. God bless all of you.
