Obituary For James Sheerin

James (Jim/Jimmy) Edward Sheerin Jr., 71, of Rockland MA passed away on December 7, 2022, after a lengthy and challenging illness, surrounded by his family. Jim was born August 11, 1951, in Quincy, MA to James Sr. and Clare (Bench) Sheerin.

Jim graduated from Quincy High School in 1970. He promptly enlisted in the United States Air Force Reserves, where he served for 6 years until honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the US Air Force. He returned to Quincy and married his high school sweetheart, Joan Macchi on May 4, 1974. They welcomed their son Michael in 1991, and relocated to Rockland where they spent the next 4 decades.

From a very early age, Jimmy’s fascination and knowledge of cars was evident to all who knew him. He was a seasoned car enthusiast who enjoyed talking vintage cars, working on his 1985 Cadillac El Dorado, and attending car shows. For more than 30 years, Jimmy’s love for cars led to his accomplished career as a car salesman, selling hundreds of Buick and GM vehicles. He worked at numerous dealerships throughout the South Shore, most notably; Dino’s, Garvey, Columbia, Mastria, Marty’s, and Prime—making many lifelong friendships along the way.

Jim was an avid and talented fisherman, whose favorite pastime was fishing for stripers in Sandwich with his best friend John. Jim was also a longtime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Quincy and Rockland, where his many friendships brought him great comfort throughout his final years.

Jim is predeceased by his parents, James Sr. and Clare (Bench) Sheerin of Quincy, his in-laws Rudolph and Alice (McCorkle) Macchi of Quincy, and brother-in-law Rudolph Macchi of Gloucester.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joan, his son Michael, his sister Paula Jansen and her husband Wayne of Braintree, his sister Patricia McCabe and her husband Richard of West Chester, PA, his in-laws William Macchi of Marco Island, FL, Richard Macchi of Abington, Jean Macchi and Cindy Tozzi of Rockland and Patricia Harry and her husband John of Kingston, as well as many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends.

Services are to be held Thursday, December 15 at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. in Rockland. Visiting hours are from 9-10:30am followed by a celebration of life.

Gracious gifts in Jimmy’s memory may be made to the Boston MSPCA:

Jim was our hardest worker at Columbia. If it was moving cars, picking up our flags, cooking our lunch on the grill, doing Dealer Trades, working the desk or being our #1 Sales Person on top of the work he did daily. Chan Whiting

God Bless Jimmy. There will never be another like you. I still tell the stories of those days ! We'll have that drink you used to ask me about when I see you again.

Saddened to hear of Jim's passing. We spent many days at Columbia, celebrating our successes. Rest in Paradise, my friend.

R.I.P. Jim Sheerin, a longtime sales professional at our former COLUMBIA Buick Pontiac GMC store by the Hanover Mall. Jim was often the monthly sales leader, and had a passion for automobiles, particularly the classics. We appreciate Jim's effort and abilities over the years, and the way his dry humor was always there to keep the sales staff laughing. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jim and his family. -Dave Delaney

Jimmy and I spent many summer vacations and winter school breaks with our Uncle Phil and Eleanor in the Point of Pines Revere we shared many childhood adventures and fun. Every time I needed a car I went to see cousin Jimmy. Very sorry for his loss gone way too soon.
