James Newton, 89, of Rockland, Massachusetts passed away peacefully on April 18, 2026 surrounded his loving family.

Jim is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 64 years, Mary-Ellen (Meem), his daughter Collene and her husband Doug Collins, his son Mark, his grandsons Markie, Kyle, Mitch, Shane and Drew and his beloved great granddaughter, Ryland Collins. He also leaves behind his sister Anne Newton and his brothers Paul of Canton and Fred of Dedham. He was predeceased by his sisters Loretta Grealy and Jean Lake.

Jim enjoyed a long and active career with the Rockland Post Office, where he served as a dedicated Shop Steward and Arbitrator with the letter Carriers Union. He also ran his own tax preparation business for many years and was a Little League baseball umpire. A passionate New England Patriots fan and a longtime season ticket holder, Jim loved spending time with friends at the Rockland Senior Center Men’s Club . He and Meem cherished their seven wonderful winters in Florida.

Above all, Jim’s greatest joy was his family. He especially treasured the special bond he shared with his great-granddaughter Ryland, whose presence always brought a smile to his face.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Saturday, May 23 from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland. A private graveside burial service will be held at a later date
