Obituary For James M. Garvey
James M. Garvey, 46 of Rockland died suddenly on Thursday August 20, 2009. He was born in Milton and was raised and educated in Rockland where he graduated from Rockland High School in 1981. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Whitman where he worked as a letter carrier. James was a member of the U.S. Postal Workers Union. Mr. Garvey was an avid fan of the local Boston sports teams, and enjoyed collecting baseball cards. He is survived by his parents James C. and Joan C. (McDonald) Garvey of Rockland, and his sisters, Laura L. Johnson of ME, Carol A. Garvey of Revere, Colleen M. Bachelder of Halifax, and Jennifer Mahoney of Plymouth. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including Emily M. Beaulieu. Jim was the loving companion of Delores Nieves of Chelsea. A funeral will be held on Friday August 28, 2009 at 8:15 AM from the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND. A Funeral Mass will follow in Holy Family Church at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in Holy Family Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday August 27, 2009 from 5-8 PM. Memorial Dontaions may be made to the Rockland Education Foundation, PO Box 764 Rockland MA 02370.

The first joke he told me , was when he told me to take off my Yankee hat && i told him sorry i cant help it . & He told me , "you cant help it , that your team sucks" . Every since that he tease me every time the red sox won .He would he always ask me about a slice of pizza from papa ginos .

I have been with Jim for 3 in half years , he was my Best friend ,my love ,& my life . He was the most wonderful man you can ever meet . Now he is in gods hand && god would look after him & protect him . I will never ever forget him .&& i love you .

Jim was a very special and fun guy. I hung out with Jim all through our teen and early adult life. I have alot of good memories that I will hold close to my heart. I will miss him and my Prayers go out to his Family. RIP JIM LOVE YA!!

jim was our mailman for a long time ,he always had a smile on his face reguardless of the weather , he was very friendly and would stop and talk a minute while i would be out gardening,you always knew when he was on vacation ,he was so punctual with my mail each day that you knew someone else was working for him, a nice guy .to the garvey family so sorry for your loss.

Jim worked at the Whitman Post Office for 21 years. Jim was a good person and a great friend. All the employees and the Whitman Post Office lost a good friend and he will truly be missed. To the Garvey family, stay strong in the Lord and hold on to God's unchanging hand.

Jim and I had shared a school locker throughout high school. Jim was a smart individual who loved sports. Jim was a great guy. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Garvey family.

jim has been our mail carrier for a few years. we enjoyed short chats and always thanked him for trudging through the snowbanks and the summers heat to deliver our mail.just last saturday i was working in the yard during the 90 degree weather saw jim and gave him one of my cold bottles of water. my husband and i went on vacation for a few days.that was the last time i saw jim. we are sad for his loved ones and we will miss jim.
