Obituary For James “Jim” Smith

James “Jim” Smith passed away suddenly this past weekend. ​Jim was born in Boston on April 18, 1944 to George and Lucy(Bruce) Smith. After graduating high school Jim joined the Army and served as a Cryptic during Vietnam. After his service Jim worked as a State Police dispatcher for 37 years. During his lengthy career he received the Manny Cabella Award. During his retirement Jim kept himself busy with his crossword puzzles, books, and computer games. He was known for being the King of Cribbage and elbow tucking his card when playing with all the kids.His greatest joy in life was his family.

​Jim leaves behind his beloved wife Alice(Gillen) of 52 years. Who ever faithfully has been by his side every step of their time together. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather to those he leaves behind. ​ His Children Christopher Smith and his Wife Kristen(Woodbury) of Weymouth. Sandra Savard of Rockland. As well as Scott Smith of Whitman.

​His Grandchildren Matthew Savard and his partner Taylor Melchiono of Quincy. Hailey Smith of Whitman. Abigail Loftus of Rockland. Alex Smith of Weymouth. Madison Smith of Weymouth. Jayden Loftus of Rockland and Rosie Loftus of Rockland. ​ Caring brother to Robert Smith of Mattapan and the Late Fredrick(Jackie) Smith. As well as Sister-in-law Cathy Haikola and her husband Erkki of Easton. Also his brother-in-law Lawrence Gillen and his wife Marianne(McHugh) of Hingham. On top of also being a beloved “Uncle Benny” to all his many nieces and nephews.

Jim’s family invites relatives and friends to celebrate his life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Friday, April 14, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 PM.
