Obituary For James J. Moynihan

James J. Moynihan, a resident of Rockland, for many years, previously of Hyde Park died January 23, 2017 at South Shore Hospital at 85 years of age. He was the son of the late Maurice and Margaret (Weschrob) Moynihan.

He was the husband of Geraldine (Adams) Moynihan and Father of James Jr. and wife Lori (Packard) of Halifax, brother William and wife Judith of Norton, grandchildren Sean, Danielle, Jared and Matthew all of Rockland and many nieces and nephews. Deceased brothers Maurice Jr John and Francis X. and sisters Margaret Ginnochio, Anne Twomey, Helen Pascuito and Theresa Collela.

A 1949 graduate of Hyde Park High School, he played amateur football with Hyde Park AC and Moody AC. He was a Korean War veteran with the U.S. Army in Military Intelligence and Security. Jim was a 1965 graduate of Suffolk University.

Jim worked for many years as an accountant in the electronics industry and eventually started his own accounting business. He served as Acting President on Board of Directors for Shepherd Half-Way House, the Rockland Finance Committee and he served as an Usher for many years at Holy Family Church in Rockland.

Mr. Moynihan owned and operated Video Gallery in Rockland with his family for 20 years. After retirement, enjoyed watching sports, music and reading, casino trips, singing and dancing. The family would like to thank the staff of Davita Dialysis for the care and treatment he received there.

The Moynihan family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate his life on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 9:00 AM at Holy Family Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland.

Jim and Geri to us have been the God parents of our family, always there in every situation, whether it was weddings, holidays, sicknesses, or anything else, while always remaining faithful to his beliefs.     We're so sad to lose Uncle Jimmy. I have so many wonderful memories of him from all the time our families spent together over the years. I am so grateful I had the chance to spend the afternoon with him recently. He will be missed.

    I had the pleasure of caring for Jim when I was a nurse at DaVita and what a sweet, classy gentleman he was. He was among the great ones and I shall mourn his passing.
