Obituary For James A. Twomey
James A. Tony; Twomey of Stoughton, MA, passed away at Boston Medical Center South on
December 28, 2025. Tony was born at Weymouth Hospital, the oldest child and only son of James P. Twomey and Dorothy (Mortali) Twomey. He was raised in Rockland and graduated from Rockland High School in 1959, where he was a star athlete. He carried a deep appreciation for his hometown throughout his life. He went on to graduate from Murray State College in 1965 with a bachelor degree in education.
He taught physical education for a few years before discovering that his true talent was in sales.
As everyone who knew him could attest, he was a born salesman. He spent most of his career in
corrugated sales, which he truly enjoyed. After retiring, he worked part-time as a salesman for
several scrap metal companies. His last job was at Cumberland Farms as a “barista”—the perfect
retirement position for him, as he loved chatting with all his regular customers.
As a lifelong athlete, Tony was most passionate about golf. He was a proud member of Little Harbor Golf Course in Wareham and Cedar Hill Golf Course in Stoughton, where he regularly met up with old friends and made new ones. Tony cherished the competitive spirit, camaraderie, and character-building that sports fostered. He took immense pride and pleasure in watching his grandsons pursue athletics, whether skiing together during February vacation at Loon Mountain and Bretton Woods or cheering from the sidelines at soccer games.
Tony will be remembered for his great storytelling, outgoing personality, positivity, and love for
life and people. He was a true and loyal friend to many and will be greatly missed.
He leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Maryann (Zaniboni) Twomey; his daughter Emily Twomey and her husband Jamie Slomski of New York City; his son Patrick Twomey and his wife Joyce of Green Harbor, MA; his son John Locke and his wife Robbin of San Diego, CA; his stepdaughter Tammy Bisson of Raynham, MA; and his stepson Robert Doherty and his wife Bri-anne of Foxboro, MA. He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Tracey Aguiar. He was the proud grandfather of Luke, Jordan, and Taylor Twomey, and step-grandfather of Richard and
Jesse Bisson. He also leaves behind two sisters, Doreen Yourell and her husband Larry of Whitman, MA, and Susan McEnelly and her husband Tom of Rockland, MA.
Family and friends are welcome to join us for visiting hours on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Magoun Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 403 Union Street, Rockland, MA. A reception will immediately follow the Mass at Rockland Golf Course, 276 Plain Street (Route 139), Rockland, MA.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tonys memory may be made to the Animal Protection Center
of Southeastern MA (apcsm.org) or the charity of your choice.

My memory... almost every Sunday Tony would come by my house with his bathing suit on ,carrying his towel. He would stand on the second step of the pool and just talk. I will miss his visits. And then he would forget to take his towel home! Haha.
