Ian Albert Curran, 48, a resident of Columbia, MD, and former resident of Rockland & North Easton, MA, passed away unexpectedly on May 11, 2020 He is survived by his loving parents Russell and Denise Curran of Rockland, MA, and his two brothers Russell of Abington, MA and Chris of Middleboro, MA, as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins from Massachusetts to Florida, Texas, and Wisconsin. He will be dearly missed by all of us.

Ian was an excellent student in the Rockland public schools prior to attending high school at the South Shore Vo-Tech in Hanover, MA where he excelled in his chosen shop of drafting where he was a multiple time medalist at the State level of VICA competitions (now Skills USA) and also competed at the national level. He was very active in school athletics and was also the class president as a senior.

Ian was a very active in the Boy Scouts of America as member of Troop 57 in Rockland, and he, like his uncle Dan before him, achieved his Eagle Scout. Ian was very involved in and proud of his work with the Boy Scouts, as he would be a member of the staff each summer at Camp Squanto in Carver, MA, teaching and helping other kids achieve. He would return after each summer excited to tell all the stories of the competitions and fun had at Squanto. Upon graduation, Ian continued onto college at Northeastern University and then UMass Boston, but ultimately went to work at the US Repeating Arms Co. in Hingham, MA like his Father, Grandfather, and Uncle before him, however in the Engineering Dept. He spent 7+ years with the company before they shut the plant to move down to Carolina. He continued working in the Engineering fields where he spent his last 14 years working as a Plumbing Design Engineer for a number of firms in the MEP consulting world, notably at R.G. Vanderweil in Boston, RDK Engineers (Now NV5) in Boston, and finally at Allen & Shariff in Columbia, MD where he spent his last two years. When given the chance, Ian loved to "talk shop". He was always very proud of his work and being part of something that was bigger than just his contributions.

Ian loved his local sports, especially the Red Sox and Patriots, and he wore that love on his sleeve. There is nothing he loved more than watching or talking sports with friends, family, or any strangers who happened to be nearby. His friends and co-workers in Maryland would constantly chide him on his Boston accent and his devotion to the Boston sports teams. We can be sure there was plenty of sports jealousy there. Ian's love of being around friends and family was evident in his big grin every time folks would get together. For a genuinely shy person, he would open up into the center of attention at gatherings of those he knew and loved. His shyness would melt away, and you would never believe it existed when the microphone opened for karaoke night.

Ian Curran will be laid to rest in the Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland, MA. He was confirmed in the Holy Family church and shall find his eternal rest and be free in the embrace of heaven. A private family viewing shall be at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home in Rockland at 9:00 am on Saturday May 23rd and shall be followed by interment at the cemetery, which will be open to all who wear masks and maintain social distancing.
