Obituary For Helen Ulich

Helen O’Reilly Ulich passed away on November 1st surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Warrington, Cheshire, England on April 29th, 1942. After earning a master’s degree in education, Helen taught in England for two years before making what she would always say was the best decision of her life, accepting a new job at the Frankfurt International School in Oberursel, Germany. It is there that she met Waldemar (Wally) Ulich, who became her husband 16 months later on New Year’s Eve 1966. Following a two-year stint at the Munich International School, Helen, Wally and their two daughters immigrated to the US. They made their home in Rockland, where Helen had three additional children, a son and two more daughters. While Wally taught at Brookline High School, Helen stayed at home to raise their five children. During this time, she began teaching CCD at Holy Family Parish in Rockland. She later became the Director of Religious Education for the parish, a position she proudly held for over thirty years. Helen always loved to travel, which ranged from camping for a weekend to trips around the world. Her trips home to visit family in England were always a highlight. Helen loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed being an active participant in parish activities, especially as a performer in numerous variety shows. In addition to Wally, her husband of 55 years, Helen leaves behind her 5 children, Beth and her husband Mike Winkler of Canton, Cathy Ulich of Stoughton, Mike and his wife Carrie Ulich of Brockton, Kirsten Ulich of Rockland, and Jenny and her husband Tony McSharry of Rockland, and 8 grandchildren: Tayla and her wife Thanithia, Sarah, Stephen, Jonathan, Sammie, Megan, Ella, and Sydney. Helen is also survived by her sister Margaret of London, England, and was preceded in death by parents Thomas and Ellen O’Reilly, and brothers Thomas and Michael. Visiting hours at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home in Rockland will be on Sunday, November 7th from 4-7PM and a Funeral Mass with be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Rockland on Monday, November 8th at 9AM. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.

To Helen's family, I got to know Helen while teaching CCD when my own kids were younger. She always cared for all the kids in CCD so well. It didn't matter if they were the very attentive ones, or the ones who couldn't handle staying in the classroom and were sent out to sit with the monitors. She cared for them all and treated them equally. She was a sweet and caring woman. Maureen Clark

Dear Wally and family. As I say that, I just thought, "family?". I 'd say "family" is the perfect word for hundreds, no the thousands of people that not only knew Helen, but learned from her. Her students from her teaching days to the kids in CCD. Not only the students & kids, but in many cases, thier entire families. People learned from Helen. She taught her lessons well. She taught love, compassion, the value of helping others including countless folks in Boston, folks from Pine Street , the people at Mirimar in Duxbury, the parents of her students, she taught us how to treat others, how to care for those that could not care for themselves. People in shelters , nursing homes, and other long care facilities. The staffs there as well a patient's families. I saw first hand how she dealt with so many, and in turn, how they felt towards her. Can you imagine Helen with Mary- Lou beyond those Pearly Gates. Thank you all for sharing Helen with the world. Thank you Helen, thank you.. Peace & L:ove, Bob Coughlin

I was so sorry to hear of Helen's passing. She was a strong and supportive friend to me at one of the worst times in my life. She told me, 'my door is always open' and it was and she listened. To all her family, especially those who I got to know through Holy Family, you will be in my prayers. love and peace, Ellen Dewey
