Obituary For Helen F. Cookson

Helen Frances Cookson

October 10, 1938 – August 10, 2024

Helen F Cookson of Hanson MA, age 85, passed away peacefully surrounded by family in the early morning hours of August 10, 2024. Helen was the devoted wife of the late John B Cookson. Daughter of the late Helen Cookson and Edward Cox, and the late John Cameron. Mother to son John B Cookson III and his wife Kathy of Bridgewater, daughter Cynthia Cookson and her companion Bob Sallaway of Braintree, and daughter Vicki Cookson of Hanson. Grandmother to Jeffery Bowman and wife Tammy,Janel Smith and husband John, Matthew Rabinovitz, and John Cookson IV and his wife Jillian. Sister to the late Stanton Thorp and Ruthie of East Bridgewater. Survived by many great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Helen was born in Brockton and raised in Hanson Massachusetts where she resided for 64 years with her late husband John. Helen and John were a beautiful example of the unconditional love between husband and wife.

Helen loved raising her three children and was a teacher’s aide in the Hanson School system. Later she was the book keeper for Cri-Tec in Hanover until her retirement. Helen was an active and devoted member of the First Congregational Church of Hanson. Helen enjoyed skiing, camping, bowling, and cruising with her friends and family. She especially enjoyed spending her summers at her cottage on Cape Cod and her winters at her villa in Naples Florida.

Helen loved her Lord and Savior Jesus and was a beautiful example of God’s Love to all who knew her. Everyone was welcomed around her kitchen table for her famous grilled cheese sandwich or a cup of coffee.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Hanson on August 24 th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Helen’s honor to the First Congregational Church, 639 High Street, Hanson, MA, 02341.

    I had the honor of playing music at one of Helen and John's wedding anniversaries and as they danced to an Elvis tune I remember being in awe of their dedication and their ability to see things through. - Steve Ferroli

    To the Cookson family, We are so saddened to hear of Helen's passing! Many fond memories of her and all the camping gang. She was an awesome lady and we are glad to say we were fortunate enough to be able to know her. She will be missed by many! Chuck Tilden and family!
