Obituary For Helen E. Najarian

Helen E. (Powers) Najarian, of Rockland died on April 5, 2008 at the Southwood at Norwell Nursing Center. She was born in Rockport, daughter of the late William and Nellie (Fears) Powers and was raised and educated there. She was a graduate of Bryant College and was a former employee of the John Hancock Life Insurance Company. Helen was an Army veteran of World War II, having received the WWII Victory Medal, American Service Medal and the WAAC Service Ribbon. Mrs. Najarian has made her home in Rockland since 1957. She was an avid sports fan and met her future husband while at Fenway Park as a young woman. Helen loved the outdoors and enjoyed long walks, bicycle rides and many other activities. She was involved in Friday night bowling leagues for several years. She is survived by her loving husband Arthur K. Najarian and their children, Stephen Najarian and his wife Mary of Naperville, Il., Arthur J. Najarian and his wife Theresa of Hanson and Helen I, Najarian of Cambridge. Helen was the sister of the late Catherine Gorman, Harvey Powers, Rob Powers and Louise Maddix. Also surviving are granddaughters Christine P. and Rachael E. Najarian and many nieces and nephews. A Funeral was held from the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND on Wednesday, April 9th at 8:15 AM. A Funeral Mass followed in Holy Family Church at 9:00 AM. Calling hours were held on Tuesday, April 8th from 9:00-11:00 AM and 1:00-4:00 PM. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Rockland on Friday April 18th at 11:30 AM. Donations in her memory may be made to Old Colony Hospice, 1 Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA. 02368, the Brockton Visiting Nurse Assoc. 500 Belmont St. Suite 200 Brockton, MA 02301, or the Mass Chapter, Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101A First Ave. Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.

    To Mr.Najarian, Artie,Steve,and especially Helen, i am so sorry to hear of the loss of your mom your parents were a beautiful role model of love and commitment to the streets of Rockland and to each other. you could see the love they had just by walking together no wonder they raised three wonderful children (adults now) May you all find peace and special memories and hold them close to your hearte.     Dear Arthur and family, What a terrible loss for your family. I will miss passing the time of day with her when she was walking or riding her beloved bicycle. We shared many a funny quip over the years of being neighbors. We will not be able to join you in the visiting hours but will try to make her funeral.
