Obituary For Harold Dunn

Harold Dunn of Hingham, passed away peacefully at home with his beloved wife of 67 years by his side on May 3, 2023. Born June 10,1938 in Boston, Hal lived in Dorchester until his marriage to Ellie when they moved to the south shore and ultimately settled in Rockland.

Loving father of Michael and his wife Wilhelmina of Hawaii, Ronald and his wife Eileen of Pembroke, Laurie of Hanson, Stephen and his wife Carla of Rockland, Christopher and his wife Melissa of Marshfield and Vicki Savicke of Hanson. Brother to the late Alice Lannigan and her husband Donald and Patricia Dolan and her husband Vincent. Cherished Papa to 20 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Mr. Dunn is also survived by many nieces and nephews and loving friends. Predeceased by his son Lawrence Dunn, and his granddaughter Jaimie Dunn.

Hal faithfully served in the Naval Reserve before enjoying a long successful career at Polaroid. He enjoyed coaching youth sports for several years and was the co-founder of the Rockland Girls Basketball league. Hal could be seen in his favorite seats attending countless number of school events for his children. This tradition continued with his grandchildren as the proud Papa could be seen cheering on a new generation of Dunns. Hal was a long time member of the Rockland Lions Club proudly serving as President.

Hal enjoyed many memorable summers at the family house in Hull surrounded by family and friends both old and new.

A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, May 9 at 9:00am at Holy Family Church 403 Union Street Rockland, MA. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a memorial donation be made to St. Jude’s or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

    Mr. Dunn was a youth football Coach of mine. I played sports with his sons Larry and Mike. Mr. Dunn was a kind and giving man. Gave of his time to countless number of youth Bulldogs in Rockland. May he rest in peace. Bill Korzeniowski - RHS '75

    To my Dear Father in Law I first met him when I was 19 years old and he was kind and loving I have been in the family for many years and He was the best Papa we could ask for,, To my Beautiful Mother in Law God Bless you for being there every moment He needed you Both of you were so strong and loving He will truly be missed but I have many happy memories to cherish love and miss you I know Larry was waiting with open arms,, with love and light Your Daughter in Law.     Mr Dunn was a youth coach of mine and his sons Mike, Larry and Steve were teammates of mine and my brother Jeff. Rest in peace coach and condolences to Hal's family. Steve Fernandez — RHS 1975

    Mr Dunn and all the kids were part of my life growing up both at school and sports. Very sad to hear of his passing. Prayers to the family!!
