Mrs. Ballard, I grew up in Rockland and graduated from Rockland High School in the class of 1983. You may not remember me, but I remember Mr. Ballard. He was my first role model in politics and inspired me to always remain involved in the community. He was the epitome of a man who gave more than he could take and I remember attending many selectman meetings and learning through his example how to be a fair and just leader. He always had the best interests of the entire community at heart and listened to all sides of an argument, carefully considering what was the "right" decision and not the easiest or most profitable. He had valuable insight about people in general, always considering each person as a human being and not a number. We were his constituents and he was a dutiful to protect and serve us in the community. He encouraged me to give careful consideration about how my own public actions would impact others and not be distracted by special interests, inspiring my generation to remain involved in town politics. Mr. Ballard was a man of integrity and my condolences to you and the family. Heidi M (Taylor) Wellman, Natick, MA July 30, 2014

Joan, your mom and family, Our deepest sadness on the loss of your dad and husband. Our thoughts are with all of you now. One day at a time. I remember the time we were down at your cottage, and I was having trouble with my camera. I was panicking and he came over took the camera and fixed it for me! I was so happy and in awe of him. Now he is up stairs helping others.

Our family is so saddened to hear of his passing. Your husband and father was a wonderfully sweet, kind and generous man. We will always remember him riding his mower or working in the workshop out back. He was such an important part of the Reed St. neighborhood. To say he will be missed is truly an understatement. Great, great man.

Dear Ballard Family, I met gentleman George at the DaVita Treatment Center during dialysis, usually on the 3rd shift. He was a wonderful, sweet and kind man, always pleasant. While waiting for me to finish dialysis, my husband Bob always enjoyed seeing George exiting the "operations area" with a big smile on his face and talking with him. The Davita professionals still talk about the time that "even tempered" George got "red in the face" and berated an unpleasant dialysis male client in a loud voice to "Stop criticising the nurses, they are doing a great job".

  • 05/25/2021

We will remember for a long, long time George’s wonderful smile and go-for-it attitude. We have so enjoyed our relationship with George through the years -- We were blessed by our good and special times shared at Old South Union Church, especially within M&M/J.O.Y. Club! We are grateful to have shared the earthly road on George’s life-journey. We will hold constant in our hearts that radiating love he would always share with all he met in this life’s journey. Our love goes with him as he travels the beautiful road ahead toward Heaven.

It was our pleasures to have George take us in his brand new red car up to Vermont and Maine to show us the logging shows and to visit his family. We now love Vermont and will always remember our happy times. Thank you George…Dick, Anita & Cindy

We are so fortunate and blessed to have him as our Uncle and are certain that all of our family members, that have gone before, helped Uncle George cross over to the other side and are at peace enjoying their reunion with him.

Our family has been truly blessed to know George. I enjoyed watching and learning so much from George that the simple things in life can be truly missed if one allows them to just pass you by. I will forever be grateful for being able to visit the working family farm in Vermont. A true experience that I will tuck away in my heart. I appreciate his handiwork with wood and the pleasure he brought to myself and my family. Sending my thoughts and prayers. Cynthia & Michael

Our hearts are heavy with grief, to hear of the passing of a good man, a great father, grandfather and a wonderful brother to his siblings. Try not to cry because George is gone, let us all smile and rejoice for he was here, and lived. We would like to think, that he is with his family in heaven. So now, may your memories fill the hole in your heart with love, because death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. My memory of George is that I remember him as a gentleman always very respectful of my opinions although very seldom we agreed on anything; he truly cared for the Town and did everything to make people’s concern justly addressed by the responsible department. Praying for strength within your family to help endure the road ahead. Blessings,
