Obituary For George Janhola

George Janhola, 85,of Abington died on June 28, 2008 at the Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born in Fitchburg in 1922, son of the late Arthur and Fina (Lehtinen) Jauhola. George began working at the young age of 16, joining the Civilian Conservation Corps efforts to build roads in Colorado. When he was seventeen George moved back home and became a self taught cook, baker, and manager at Howard Johnson's Resturaunt where he eventually would meet his wife. Mr. Janhola was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. He signed up for the Navy on December 8, 1941, the day after the Pearl Harbor attacks. After returning home from the war George started his own carpentry business, George Janhola Builders which he ran for many years retiring in 1984. Mr. Janhola was a life member of the Rockland V.F.W., as well as a life member of the D.A.V. In his free time he enjoyed cribbage, pool, golfing, fishing, and bowling. George was also known as a true handyman. He is the husband of the late Eleanor (Rose) Janhola . Survived by his son Richard Janhola, and his wife Louise of Pembroke. Grandfather of Kristen L. Janhola of Middleboro, Kerry L. Sherry of Halifax, and Stefanie M. Haen of Pembroke. Also survived by 6 Great-Grandchildren, and George's very special friend Helen Bartol of Whitman A Funeral will be held on Wednesday,June 2, 2008 at 11:00 AM in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. ROCKLAND. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Calling hours Tuesday, June 1, 2008 from 5-8 PM. Donations may be made to the Brain Tumor Society 124 Watertown Street, Suite 3H, Watertown, MA 02472.

    Sorry to hear of Mr. J.'s passing. It's been a long time since I saw him, but as a kid living on Melvern Road, I never missed a chance to say "Hi" to him as he built something in the driveway.

    Dear Rick, Louise, children and Helen I am so sorry to hear about George's passing on. Just heard about it today and am heartbroken I did't know sooner. Be assured of my prayers for all of you.
