Obituary For George J. Clancy

George J. Clancy Jr, 88 of Middleboro, formerly of Rockland, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2015 with his dog Fenway at his side. George was the loving and devoted husband of 54 years to his late wife Frances B. (Creedon) Clancy, who predeceased him in 2005. He is survived by his son James Clancy or Wareham, daughter Marie Lundin and her husband George of Stoughton, son George E. Clancy and his wife Dianne Walsh of Littleton, daughter Patricia Condry and her husband James of Middleboro, and son Matthew Clancy and his wife Holly of Rochester. He is further survived by his brother Richard Clancy of Whitman, his sister Barbara McDermott and her husband Gene of Weymouth and his brother Ronald and his wife Nancy of Lynnfield. George is also survived by 13 adoring grandchildren. George is predeceased by his sister Frances formerly of San Diego CA, his sister in-law Trudy Clancy formerly of Whitman and his brother in-law Lawrence Creedon formerly of Quincy.

An honorable, faithful and decent man, he was the son of George J. Clancy and Alice (Cramer) Clancy who was raised in Dorchester. On his 17th birthday he proudly enlisted in the United States Navy where he served in World War II in the Pacific theatre engaged in air-sea rescue operations. Following his service in WWII, he returned home and soon met and married the love of his life, Frances.

Residing for a short time in Abington, Mr. and Mrs. Clancy eventually moved to Rockland in 1967 where they remained to raise their five children. There, George and Frances where deeply faithful and devoted parishioner's at the Holy Family Church, where they volunteered in several roles over the years. Following his military service, George worked in the leather industry for more than 30 years, eventually rising to Vice President of International Sales with the Amira Corporation, traveling the globe to promote his product. Occasionally he was able to bring his beloved Frances along on some of his trips and they continued to travel in retirement.

George was an avid sports fan, who enjoyed cheering on all the Boston major sports teams, particularly the Red Sox. He enjoyed playing golf with his three sons and was a regular at Ridder's Golf Course in East Bridgewater. George also enjoyed attending the grand kid's ballgames, concerts, dance recitals or any other event they were participants.

George's family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Friday March 6, 2015 at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, Rockland MA from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Church, on Saturday March 7, 2015 at 11:00 AM. A private internment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be sent to the Massachusetts Special Olympics.
