George E. Briggs, of Rockland, June 19, 2007 Age 93. Husband of the late Claire (Hines) Briggs and Louise (Gammon) Briggs. Brother of Florence I. Rea of New Bedford. Uncle of Carol A. Gordon of Rockland, Pamela E. Forbes of Bridgewater and Marilyn J. Rea of Fairhaven. Longtime friend of Mary Keough of Rockland. A Graveside Funeral Service was held in Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Abington on Saturday, June 23rd at 10:00 AM. Calling hours were held in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union St. ROCKLAND, Friday, June 24th from 5-8 PM. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association 36 Cameron Ave. Cambridge, MA 02140. George died at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth after a period of failing health. He was born in Abington, son of the late George W. and Edith (Herbert) Briggs and has mad his home in Rockland since 1950. For several years in the early 1970's he resided in Sebring and Ft. Myers Florida, He retired in 1971 from the Rockland Water Department where he had been employed for over ten years. He had previously been a sheet metal fabricator for Bethlehem Steel at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy. He had been active at the Rockland Senior Center where he enjoyed playing cards.
