From Miss Ford’s second grade class at Lincoln School on, Gary was a friend of mine. He was everybody’s friend. Bright, smart, athletic and good looking â€" girls, teachers and classmates liked, admired and respected the kid who didn’t know how to hate. You felt safe with Gary. He stood up to bullies, teachers and coaches not in defiance but in an effort to understand what they were thinking. Tough guys who pushed him too hard regretted it and learned to leave him be. Gary would tackle teammates helping them up apologizing for any “discomfort.â€? Head Coach JB yelled at him for being too compassionate. He just smiled and ignored him. Gary often said his happiest days were playing in RHS’s Memorial Stadium on Sunday pick-up football games affectionately known as the “Z-Bowl.â€? Generations of football players and non-athletes alike played hard, laughed and gathered together after the games in friendship. Just the way Gary liked it. â€" Curt Slocum

Tom & Hilda Osmanski. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. He truly was a Legend! He was the reason the 1971 team finished 6-3. He was a monster! He was nothing but muscle. I tried to tackle him in practice and thought he separated my shoulder. He was the most humble guy I ever had the privilege to play sports with. He was an awesome competitor and student athlete. He will truly be missed. Again our thoughts and prayers are with Gary's family.

Gary was an amazing and unique person. I really enjoyed talking and even studying the scriptures with him. Not many knew it but he enjoyed the Bible. We can all draw consolation in knowing about that books promise of a resurrection. He was too good a man not to be in Paradise. Love to his wonderful family, Joe

Gary was a dear friend. His locker was right next to mine during years of high school football and track. Unfortunately I only saw Gary once since we graduated. It was by the concession stand behind the stadium during a RHS football game. He saw me and ran over to give me a hug. Picked me right off my feet. I still smile when I think of it. He will be missed. My best to all of his family. I'll being praying for you.

I knew Gary from him working for UPS, and he was a kind and sometimes funny man. Didn't know the family but I'm very sorry for your loss. He was too young as was my husband when he passed at the age of 60. I hadn't seen Gary for quite awhile since he left UPS but always remembered him. God Bless.

Gary was voted "shyest" in the 72 class yearbook. I translate shy as the same as humble. Jesus was the most humble person to walk the face of the earth and Gary had that in his character. I have nothing but fond Memories of Gary. I wish he would have attended some of the reunions but that was him. Every time we got together I was hoping he would be there. I love the ups guys that I've met over the years. He fits that mold so well.....serving others! My condolences to the family from the entire owen family. Rip Gary

To Gary's Family and Friends: Very sorry for your loss. Remember Gary from Jr and Sr. High School. Well-liked classmate, good student and athlete. In Mr. Corbett's 8th grade art class, Gary posted a realistic drawing of football players midaction. It was an illustration. Smiled and shrugged when it was admired by classmates.
