Obituary For Frederick W. Darling

Frederick W. Darling, 88 of Rockland died on Monday March 16, 2009 at the South Shore Nursing and Skilled Care Center after a period of failing health. He was born in Boston, son of the late John A. and Ernestine (Pelkey) Darling and was raised and educated there. He was a graduate of Boston English High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II. A longtime Weymouth and Plymouth resident, Mr. Darling has made his home in Rockland for the past nine years. Fred retired in 1981 after a 43 year career as a Division Manager for the Boston Edison Company. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the Rockland American Legion and was a daily communicant of Holy Family Parish. Frederick was the husband of Alba A. LaTora Darling of Rockland and the late Madeline C. (Drain) Darling. He was the father of Frederick W. Darling, Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Rockland, Carol A. Darling of Weymouth, Michael T. Darling and his wife Mary of Pembroke, and Elaine M. Williams and her husband Joseph of Whitman. He was the step father of Joann M. O'Brien and her husband William of Quincy and John A. LaTora and his wife Nancy of Hanson and the brother of Ernest Darling of Brockton and the late Virginia T. Dirrane. Also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his granddaughters Erin and Allison Darling. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Church in Rockland on Friday, March 20, 2009 at 9:00 AM. Burial will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at a later date. Donations in his name may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society c/o Holy Family church, 403 Union St. Rockland, MA. 02370.
