Obituary For Francis M. Burns

Francis M. Burns, (Butch) 81,of Rockland died on January 6, 2017 at The South Shore Hospital after a brief illness.Francis was born in Hanover son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Beardsly) Burns. Mr. Burns was raised and educated in Rockland. He was a graduate Rockland High School in 1954. While in high school Francis excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduating, Mr. Burns went on to serve his country as a United States Army Veteran. Mr. Burns worked for the Boston Elevator and Machine Company, as an Elevator Mechanic for 39 years. Butch was a member of the International Union of Elevator Constructors, The American Legion Post 112 in Abington, and volunteered for many years at The St. Vincent DePaul Society at Holy Family Church in Rockland. Butch loved to garden golf and fix anything but most of all he loved his family and Spending time with them. He was a true Bulldog and never missed a sporting event especially when his grandkids were playing. Francis is survived by his beloved Wife, Patricia (Gillis) Burns. Father of, Craig E. Burns and his wife Cheryl of NH, and Lori F. Harrison and her husband Jeff of Rockland. Brother of Richard Porrino of Whitman, and the late Catherine Griffin, James Burns Jr. Marian DiGiano, Geraldine Silvia, William and Robert Burns. Also survived by 8 Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild, and many Nieces and Nephews.

Francis' family would like to invite family and friends to join them as they celebrate his life at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union Street, Rockland on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00am on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at The Holy Family Church in Rockland . Burial will follow in the Holy Family Cemetery. Donations may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society, C/O Holy Family Church 403 Union St. Rockland MA.

Uncle Butchy was always there to lend a helping hand and was part of the mechanical dynamic duo of Butch and Vinnie. Between the two of them, I don't think there was anything they couldn't fix.
