Francis James Smedile, age 63, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his family on October 19, 2025.

Born and raised in Pepperell, MA, Fran proudly served in the United States Navy where he served as a Petty Officer on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Ranger. After the Navy, Fran worked for over 34 years for Quest Diagnostics, from which he retired.

Fran was the beloved son of the late Francis and Judy Smedile and is survived by his sister, Karen (Smedile) Spitz, and her husband, Paul, of Hanover; his brother, Kenneth Smedile, of Attleboro; and his brother, Derek Smedile, of Rockland. He was a proud uncle to Jonathan Spitz, Rachel Bradford, Stephanie Spitz, Mackenzie Smedile, and Bella Porciello.

Fran enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Fran was an avid hunter and enjoyed going on annual hunting trips with his friends… as well as an occasional poker game. A special thank you to the Collins family (Matt, Rhonda, Patrick and Matthew) for being such cherished friends of Fran.

The family is planning a private service at the Bourne National Cemetery for veterans. Any donations can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation in Fran’s memory. A Celebration of Life for Fran is being planned for friends and extended family later next year.
