Obituary For Everett A. Morse

Everett A. Morse, 96, formerly of Hanover, died March 4, 2009 at Harbor House in Hingham. Born in Boston on October 13, 1912, son of the late Irvin L. Morse and Margaret E. (Rumer) Morse, he graduated from Milton High School and the Norfolk County Agricultural School. Mr. Morse moved to Hanover in 1933 with his parents where he established Twin Cedars Farm, raising poultry and producing hatching eggs which were sent all over the world. In 1942 he married his beloved Eleanor Murphy and they raised seven children working side by side on the farm. When he ceased operating the farm in the mid-70's, Everett worked for many years for Peterson & Nash Co. of Hanover. With an ever-present smile and a sincere interest in people, Everett was an inveterate walker and was well-known in Hanover for his daily walks, which he continued into his late 80s, making many friends along the way. He lovingly cared for his wife Eleanor until her death in 2001. After living in Hanover for more than 70 years, Mr. Morse moved to Cohasset in 2005 to live with his youngest son and his family, and in 2007 he moved to Allerton House in Hingham where he lived very happily until his recent illness. Everett leaves four daughters and three sons, Marcia Morse of Chatham; Susan Wienczkowski of Lafayette, CO; Margaret Anglin of Waterloo, Ontario; Eleanor Morse of Seattle, WA; Everett Morse III of Baltimore, MD; Martin Morse of Savoy, IL and Samuel Morse of Cohasset. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law Elizabeth Ingram of Brockton and Phyllis Stavris of South Boston. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 13, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street, ROCKLAND. Burial will follow at Hanover Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be from 2:00 ?4:00 and 7:00 ?9:00 PM on Thursday, March 12, 2009. Donations in his memory may be made to the Scituate Animal Shelter, PO Box 823, Scituate, Ma 02066.

To Margaret, Bebo, and the rest of the family: What a wonderfully long life your dad experienced, and the last three years were like a bonus. Through my brief exposure to him in the 1960s and keeping up with the family indirectly since then, I know his many kind and thoughtful ways are living on in the children he raised. My thoughts are with you.

To Marcia and All the Family: Some people you don't forget and your father was one of them. His smile and earnestness are what I remember best about him. A man of many talents and interests, a shining soul. He will be missed, but he has left a large legacy behind in the lives of all his family and the life he lived.

I just got a letter from my mother telling me the news of your fathers passing. I can remember staying with the family during the day while my mother and father were working. Even after nearly 50 years I still have vivid memories (for lack of a better word)of the smell chicken manure on a hot day. Your mother and father were wonderful people... I wish you all the best and please accept my condolences. Tom
