Obituary For Estelle T. Hammer
Estelle T. (LaBrecque) Hammer, 80 of Abington died on May 28, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Albert and Valencia (Mercier) LaBrecque and was raised and educated in Watertown and the Forest Hills section of Boston. She started a career with the John Hancock Insurance Co. in Boston when she met and fell in love with her late husband Leonard J. Hammer, who was a Coast Guard sailor. After their marriage they purchased a small tract of land in Norwell, while living in a rustic hunting cabin that was on the property, they cleared the land and built their new homestead themselves. Mrs. Hammer had been employed at Sears in Hanover as a customer service representative for over twenty years retiring in 1992. After her retirement she and her husband relocated to the Las Vegas area and enjoyed many visits to the glamour of the casinos and the "two for one specials." She returned to the South Shore after her husband's death and was always there to help and encourage her loved ones. Until recently she enjoyed driving, shopping and dining with her friends. She is survived by her sons Alan L. Hammer of Abington and Barry J. Hammer of Denver, NC. A brother David LaBrecque of Abington, 3 grandchildren Kristina D. Lane, Michelle L. Hammer and Valerie D. Hammer as well as 3 great grandchildren. A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday June 4, 2008 at 9:00 AM in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St. ROCKLAND. Burial followed in Holy Family Cemetery. Calling hours were omitted. The Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. Rockland is assisting with arrangements.

Alan and Barry, So sorry to learn of your Mom's passing. Estelle was a wonderful person. One that I am proud to have met and worked with at Sears. I visited her a few times in the beautiful home in Norwell a very long time ago. At that time your Mom and Dad were starting to grow strawberries. About a year ago I had the great pleasure of meeting up with her once again in the Stop and Shop in Abington. She was a wonderful person as well as friend. She always had the most beautiful smile for everyone. May all your many memories of her and the good times help you both thru this most difficult time. My prayers are with you. Peace, Judy
