Obituary For Elwood B. Turner
Elwood B. Turner, 89 of Hanover died at the Coyne Healthcare Center in Rockland after a period of failing health. He was born in Weymouth, son of the late Clayton and Mary (Wilder) Turner. And was raised and educated in Hanover where he had been a lifelong resident. He graduated from Sylvester High School in 1941and enrolled for a year at Northeastern University before enlisting in the Navy to serve during World War II. Upon his discharge he returned to Northeastern to resume his studies.
Elwood was formerly employed with General Dynamics at the Fore River Shipyard and later had a long career as a planning engineer with Stone and Webster Co. in Boston. He served as a call firefighter for the town of Hanover for 20 years and had formerly been a member of the Phoenix Lodge AF&AM in Hanover.
Mr. Turner enjoyed camping, boating and fishing and he loved to travel. He enjoyed his involvement as an amateur radio operator using the call letters N1JQR.
He is survived by his bride of 60 years, Dallas H. (Bragg) Turner and his children, Richard C. Turner of St. John's Newfoundland, Canada and Diane R. Turner of Rockland. He was the loving grandfather of Dawn Marie Turner of CA. He was preceded in death by his son, Bradford T. Turner.
The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Monday, February 11, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. in Rockland. A Funeral Service will be celebrated on Tuesday February 12, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be on Friday, February 15, 2013 at 11:30 in Hanover Center Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Trinity Episcopal Church, 3 Goddard Ave. Rockland, MA 02370.
