Ellen S. (Sawtelle) Casagrande, 93 of Quincy died on November 17 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton after a period of failing health. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late Carl and Martha (Bellamasina) Sawtelle. Ellen was raised and educated in Dorchester. She has lived in Quincy for the last 60 years. She was a longtime communicant of St. Mary's Church in West Quincy. Ellen married her Husband Joseph L. Casagrande, a retired Sergeant for the Quincy Police on April 16, 1939. Mrs. Casagrande worked for the Classified Advertising Department of the Quincy Patriot Ledger for many years. Mrs. Casagrande loved to spend time with her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. Ellen is survived by her Husband Joseph L. Casagrande. Mother of retired Massachusetts State Police Lt. Carl Casagrande, and his wife Patricia Casagrande of Rockland. Sister of Carl Sawtelle of Canton. Grandmother of Robert Casagrande of Hull, James Casagrande of Norwell, Steven Casagrande of Rockland, and Michael Casagrande of Rockland. Also survived by 5 Great-Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday,November 21st in St. Mary's Church in Quincy at 10:00 AM. Calling hours were on Tuesday, November 20th from 4-7 PM. Burial followed the Funeral Mass in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
