Obituary For Elizabeth "Lizzy" Taft
Elizabeth A. Taft, "Lizzy," 81, of Pembroke, Mass departed this life on 8 June 2015 .
She was born in Worcester, MA on 12 March 1934, the only daughter of David N. Taft & Katharine C. Taft of Oxford, MA. She is predeceased by her parents, and her brothers D. Russell Taft & Nathaniel C. Taft. She is survived by her sister-in-law Norma T. Rohrs of Vero Beach, FL, three nephews: Robert C. Taft of Falmouth MA, David N. Taft of Harpswell, ME, and Donald A. Taft of Brandon, SD. Lizzy also leaves nine great-nieces and nephews, and eleven great-great nieces and nephews. She was especially close to three of her great-nieces, Cady and Laura Taft of Falmouth, and Carolyn & C.J. Mulvey of Northborough, MA.
Lizzy grew up in Oxford, MA and attended the Oxford Public Schools. For 28 years, Lizzy made her home at New England Village, Pembroke, MA, where she enjoyed a full, happy, and interesting life. She leaves many beloved friends there. Most especially, she will miss her best friend of over thirty years, Rita Limauro, and her dear friend and biggest advocate, Gail Giles.
Lizzy loved games and puzzles, swimming, bowling, quahoging, and boating. She loved delicious food, and enjoyed sharing good meals with friends. She loved keeping up with friends and family. She loved Cape Cod and vacationed in Megansett nearly every summer of her life.
Lizzy was full of joy and love for life and people. She remembered everyone's face, name and their families, and was always asking about their lives and activities. She would light up with a huge smile and her bright blue eyes just hearing everyday updates or plans. She loved to gossip and gab. She connected with people with such ease and genuine interest that they felt valued, loved and immediately that they were her friend. Lizzy's positivity was infectious. She strived to be strong and good. She focused on her work and activities. Lizzy had beautiful handwriting and wrote hundreds of letters to family and friends. She was skilled at cross stitching and knitting and generously gave her work to the ones she loved.
The Taft family welcomes friends and loved ones to a Celebration of Her Life on Saturday July 25, 2015 from 1:00-2:30 PM at The New England Village, 664 School Street, Pembroke, Ma. 02359. My sympathy to the family of Elizabeth. I was a classmate of Elizabeth until the 5th grade when she left Oxford for another school. We enjoyed playing house with her in her third floor home and pretend we all had apartments. She visited my home to play with the four children in my family. We loved to go to her birthday parties. We missed her when she moved and would see her occasionally when she returned to Oxford to visit her brother. We were all happy to see her at our 50th Class Reunion. It sounds like she had a very happy and fulfilling life, also a long life which I and some of her friends have also.

Liz was a wonderful person who just made you smile. I so enjoyed our long chats when I worked at NEV. No doubt she is in heaven catching up with everyone she knows and asking all about their families, as she always did here on earth. She was a gem.

We grew up with Lizz as next-door neighbors in Oxford, MA. We could wave back and forth and call across through opened windows. We would visit and play games and cards. We would catch up with her when she came home from The Rhinebeck Country School, then Bethany , and her lovely home at New England Villages. We always had so much to catch up with. She was fortunate to be able to come home for day visits every few years. We kept in touch through letters and phone calls. Our last visit to her home was this past November when we surprised her. She was her sweet self. Lizz always had a loving, positive attitude. if you ever met her, you would remember her for life. She always spoke of her loving family, those here and those who have passed on. Elizabeth will be greatly missed by all of her friends.
