Bette and I were cousins although we really didn't get to know one other well until the last few years. She told me so much about my mother that I never knew. Her mother and mine were sisters but brought up in different homes. My fondest memories were having lunch or just an afternoon tea at her kitchen table. When her sister Mary was living, she would come over, and we would talk the afternoon away with me trying to sort out our complicated family. It turns out our families were very large, and both Bette and Mary knew all about every member. I still am trying to figure whose who. Bette was a lot of fun, and I know that she is in heaven having tea with those who have gone before her. Bette, I love you, and I will miss those afternoon teas.
