Obituary For Elizabeth Betty Slinger
Elizabeth “Betty” Slinger (nee Rogers), 88, of Abington, MA, passed away unexpectedly on December 31, 2023. Born to the late David G. Rogers and Aulderbella Rogers on the 14th of January 1935 in Malden, MA, Betty embodied the virtues of kindness and generosity throughout her life.
With a spirit characterized by selflessness and determination, she navigated a distinguished career spanning over three decades as a Legal Administrator and Proofreader, displaying unwavering commitment and intellectual prowess in her vocation.
Betty’s life was rich with personal interests that reflected her altruistic nature and love for her community. Her involvement with the Abington Council on Aging, the Friends of Seniors, and the Friends of the Library were testimonies to her dedication to serving others. Her roles on the Board of the Abington Senior Center, as President of the Abington High School Music Parents, and on the High School Accreditation Committee, illustrated her leadership and passion for educational excellence. Additionally, her talents as a painter and gardener (both inherited from her mother) brought beauty into the lives of those around her.
The family matriarch leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her daughter, Denise L. Sharpe, son, David J. Sharpe, grandson (whom she raised), David P. Sharpe, sister, Barbara Whitcomb, and brother, David Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husbands, George Sharpe and Gordon Slinger, her parents, David and Aulderbella Rogers, and her son, Russell Sharpe.
A Memorial Service will be held at Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on March 4 at 11am, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Abington Senior Center on March 5 at 11am. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations are encouraged towards a fund for cancer research, a cause close to Betty's heart, being championed by her grandson, David P. Sharpe. Donations may be made by visiting GoFundMe in Memory of Elizabeth Slinger.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, the Cremation Society of Toledo, and the Abington Senior Center for their compassionate support and guidance during this time of mourning.

Dear David and family, I had the pleasure of meeting your mother when she and my Cousin Joanne invited me to join the volunteers preparing Senior Informer Newsletters for mailing. Mom was our editor, and she worked tirelessly to make Abington's newsletter the best publication! May wonderful memories help you through the hard times ahead. Blessings, Carol Najarian

I send my condolences to Betty's family and friends. I knew Betty through her affiliation with Abington Public Schools. Her upbeat personality and intelligence made being in her presence a gift. May fond memories of Betty bring comfort.
