Obituary For Elizabeth "Betsy" Chase
Our beloved Betsy passed away peacefully on 15.May.2013, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 85. The daughter of Charles Wyman and Marion Wyman LaCrosse, Betsy grew up in Wellesley Hills, MA, and went on to graduate from the Dana Hall School and attend Colby Junior College.
Betsy summered in Barnstable, MA, where she became an integral member of a very special group of life-long friends and where she also met her adoring husband of 65 years, Francis F. (Franny) Chase, Jr. They raised their family in Norwell, MA, a community she cherished as evidenced by the myriad of interests and organizations she participated in. From the Norwell Little League, Cub Scout Den Mother, head of the Sunday School at the First Parish Unitarian Church, to her avid participation in The North River Community Club, Betsy personified community spirit.
Betsy was passionate about her art, at which she excelled, and was happiest tending her rose and flower gardens, oft the subjects of her paintings. She particularly loved to travel and explore with her darling Franny. From several bare-boat charters with close friends in the US and British Virgin Islands, with Fran at the helm, to their innumerable discovery trips throughout Europe and it's bounty of museums, diverse cultures and richness of history, Betsy truly lived life and culture to its fullest with her best friend, her husband.
After raising their family in Norwell, Betsy and Fran moved to the Cape on a full time basis, where she again became active in her gardening and painting circles, as well as in her favored Federated Church community. She also served as a volunteer at Cape Cod Hospital, Barnstable Senior Center, Historical Society, Cape Cod Art Association. She always looked forward to the annual Pops by the Sea concert on the Hyannis Town Green, where she was known to have sung along to all the songs played by The Boston Pops Orchestra (sometimes making up the lyrics as she went…).
Betsy adored her boys Brad and Frank, and reveled in their families' visits to the Cape, especially seeing her daughters in law and her grandchildren.
All of the fond memories and colorful stories of our dear Betsy will be remembered by her loving family; her husband Francis F. Chase, Jr., her two sons, Allan (Brad) Chase and his wife Marie and their three sons Justin, Matthew & Daniel of Rockland, MA,, and Francis ( Frank) Chase, III and his wife Susan of Manchester, MA., and their children Jennifer & Joshua and his wife Megan Chase, Brothers Brad, Peter & Scott Wyman and sister Sarah Wyman Scanlon, along with her adoring nieces & nephews.
A celebration of Betsy Chase's life will be held at The Federated Church of Cape Cod in Hyannis, MA, on Saturday, 29.June.2013, at 11:00 am, to be followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in her name to The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, 3 Shootflying Hill Rd., Barnstable Town, MA 02632, or Norwell Knoll (Activity Fund) 329 Washington Street Norwell MA 02061

Our daughter Julie said it as well as anyone in the family could describe Betsy. She was a wonderful woman who will be sorely missed. She and Frannie have always been role models for us as a very successful marriage that should be encouraged today. RIP, Betsy. Love, Johnny

My heart and condolences go out to Mrs. Chase's Husband and Family at this time. I did not see her too often well but one particular memory sticks out in my mind. When I gained my employment at Pinelake Gardens & Estates in Stuart, Florida back in October of 2010, I remember introducing myself to her and she said "oh, you're the new Carol?". I laughed and told her yes and she gave me the brightest smile I had ever seen and she said that I would do just fine here. I could tell she was a beautiful soul and I saw first hand how much her Husband adored her. Mrs. Chase had many friends here in the community and I know she will be missed. Now God has another Beautiful angel. Rest in Peace <3
