Obituary For Edward L. Newell

Edward L. Newell, 91, of Rockland, MA, passed away at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital on January 3, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. Beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Son, GiGi and Friend. He was born on April 16, 1931, in Boston, MA. Edward is survived by his wife of 69 years, Celine M. (Costigan), his five children, Thomas and his wife Kathy Newell of Rockland, MA, Elisa Chandler and her husband Mark Chandler of Rockland, MA, Eric and his wife Lynn Newell of Hanover, MA, Celine Newell and her ex-husband Victor Breda of Middleboro, MA, Peter and his wife Karen Newell of Rockland, MA. He is survived by 11 grandchildren, David, Kerri, Crystle, TJ, Michelle, Matt, Kristin, Nicole, Melissa, Jared, and Victoria. He is also survived by 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Edward is the son of Chester and Mary (Green) Newell, and brother to Richard Newell and the late Barbara Creedon. Edward, a US Marine, proudly served his country during the Korean War from 1951-1954. He worked as a Postal Inspector for the City of Boston. After retiring from the Boston Postal Service, he worked as the Manager at the Rockland Golf Course. He worked for the RGC for many years, before retiring to Indiantown, FL. He relocated back to Middleboro, MA in November 2021. Edward enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer with a recorded 15 hole-in-ones. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, sitting outside, watching, and feeding the birds. His favorite charity was Toys for Tots. Services will be private.

    My deepest sympathies to the Newell family. I was rookie inspector new to the Boston division when Ed was there. He like other senior inspectors there taught us newbies much. It was a pleasure to work with him.

    Tom, Eric, Celine and the entire Newell family, I am sorry to learn that Ed passed away. It was always a pleasure being teamed up golfing with Ed at the Rockland Golf Course. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
