Obituary For Edward F. Reid

Edward F. Reid, 67, of Rockland, died on April 14, 2018 at The South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. Eddie was born in Boston, son of the late James and Theresa (Isiah) Reid. He was raised and educated in the Upham's Corner Neighborhood of Dorchester. Mr. Reid was a proud veteran of our Nation's Armed Services, serving in the United States Marine Corps. During his military service, Ed was stationed on the Island of Vieques on Puerto Rico. It was during his time in Puerto Rico, that Mr. Reid was promoted to "Mess Sergeant." It was at this moment that Eddie's lifelong love, and talent for cooking took shape. He cooked for his brothers in the Marine Corps while in Puerto Rico, as well as for the island locals at a restaurant that he owned and operated on the side.

In 2003 Ed and his beloved Wife Brenda Kelly purchased The Banner Restaurant and Pub in Rockland. Together Eddie and Brenda turned The Banner Pub into a local gem where friends and neighbors could congregate for great food and fellowship. Through his generosity, volunteer work, and fine cooking, Ed Reid became an integral part of the fabric of the Rockland community. It was often said of Mr. Reid that the only thing bigger than his heart, was the portion sizes he served in his restaurant.

Mr. Reid was a member of The Rockland Knights of Columbus, and The Rockland Fraternal Order of Eagles 3841. Edward is survived by his Wife of 26 years, Brenda Kelly of Rockland. Sister of Margie Reid. Brother of, Adrian Kelly of Ireland, Deirdre Brassil and her Husband Martin of Ireland, Gabriel Kelly and his Wife Helen of Ireland, Howard Beggs and his Wife Maeve of Ireland, Jasbir Gill and his Wife Jeanette of Ireland. Devoted Brother-in-Law of Deirdre Lydon of West Roxbury. Father of James Reid of CA, and Jennifer Reid of Weymouth. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate Eddie's life on Thursday April 19, 2018 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, MA 02370. An outdoor Celebration of Mr. Reid's life will be held on Friday April 20, 2018 at 9:30 AM from the steps of Eddie's beloved Banner Restaurant and Pub. Burial with Military Honors will follow the services in The Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
