Obituary For Dorothy McCauley
Dorothy McCauley of Rockland passed away peacefully on April 27th, 2020 in her home while surrounded by her loving family. Fondly known as Dottie, she is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 53 years, Richard McCauley. She was a dedicated mother to her 6 children, Elaine (John) Meehan of Brighton, Maria (Edward) Joseph of Rockland, Annemarie (Matthew) MacDonald of Norwell, Richard (Sherry) McCauley of Mason, Ohio, Michelle (Jeffrey Bailey) McCauley of Whitman and David McCauley of Boston. Her grandchildren Austin, Nina and Spencer Joseph, Delaney, Reagan and Rooney Meehan, Liliana and Colin MacDonald, and Parker and Carter McCauley affectionately called her Dammy. They were the absolute sunshine of her life and she celebrated every milestone with them.
She is predeceased by her parents Phyllis and Leroy Gardner. Dottie is survived by her Aunt Sally, 13 siblings: Roy, Anne Marie, Mary, Madeline, Gerard, Peter, Mark, Paul, Kathleen, Rita, Regina, Elizabeth and Stephen; her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Her dogs Bella and Holly will miss her terribly.
Dorothy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Massachusetts College of Art at the ripe young age of 52 and was an accomplished botanical artist with many awards. She was granted a diploma from the Society of Botanical Artists in London, England. Her paintings have been prominently displayed and often awarded by the American Society of Botanical Artists, the Filoli Museum, Newport Flower Show, New England Spring Flower Show, NESBA Traveling Show, Small Works Denver, amongst others. She enjoyed taking the lead in any activity that involved her children including: The Holy Family Mothers Club, CCD Instruction, Rockland School Committee and many more. Dottie was an avid gardener who cultivated many extraordinary species in her gardens. She worked at Harvard Pilgrim in Braintree, Brockton Hospital and multiple nursing homes where she adored so many patients. Decorating her home and spending time with her family were favorite past times.
Our mom, grandmother, sister, friend, auntie and most importantly wife is now in heaven with her beautiful family and friends that awaited her. Dottie would like to thank all of you who have been such a special part of her life and know that she still loves all of you. …'Till we meet again on a beautiful sunny day. Services at this time will be private due to COVID19. We will celebrate Dottie's life with family and friends at a time when it is safe to do so.

So sad to hear that this special lady is no longer with us.
It was my Senior year in high school when I finally returned her Son's phone calls, she answered the phone "Is this Liz? This is Dottie McCauley, it is wonderful to hear from you!" She went on to explain that her son had been in an accident and she was hoping I could lift his spirits. My first impression, what a wonderful mother! Once graced with her presence it is hard to have anything other than fond and warm memories of Dottie. We were both going to Art schools around the same time and bonded over being creatives. She mentored me as an artist and paid me to shoot my first wedding. She was one of my biggest supports while attending school. After school, we joined art shows together. When I placed 3rd in 3 different categories and saw myself as a failure, she beamed with pride and encouraged me as only a fellow artist could. She was also an extraordinary artist whose work I admired.
I could go on and on about Dottie and her wonderful family and legacy. She was one of the biggest loves, I have met! Her beautiful smile and an infectious laugh that lit up a room. Every role she filled in this life was full of loyalty, laughter, love, and humor. I will truly miss random calling or stopping by the yellow home and be greeted with her warmth and conversation. My sincere condolences to Garden and McCauley Families on this incredible loss. Sending you all love and peace during this difficult time. -

"To the family of Dottie (as I knew her as well as my family) My deepest condolences.I had known Dottie when her and her family lived next door to us on Liberty St. in Rockland, until the Gardners moved to Exchange St. This was many many years ago. I remember her as the oldest of many sisters. If I am wrong I apologize, wasn't she a lead majorette in the Holy Family Drum and Bugle corps. Always smiling and watching out for her younger sisters." Dear Richard and Elaine,
And Family, I just woke up and moments ago my wife found Dottie's notice on line. I'm in shock and so truly and deeply saddened at Dottie's passing. One of the highlights of my professorship at Suffolk University was finding and bringing Dottie to my students in my Advanced Illustration Course. We co-taught the Botanical Illustration Project. Year after year my students, and I, fell under her enchantment of her charm, grace, intelligence, talent and love of her art! Knowing her and having her at the university was one of the highlights of my academic year! Everyear with the return of Spring, we looked forward to Dottie's return. I cherish the award winning Botanical Painting of Pears that is in our home. My wife and I will see her in every Spring Bloom and hear her laughter! I offer my deepest condolences to you both and your entire family.
Kindly, Wallace Marosek -

I am so sorry for the loss of your wife, mother, and grandmother. I did not know Dottie, but every Saturday at Holy Family Church at the 4 PM I would see your parents always together and your mother had a big smile.
She would always say hi to people passing her leaving the church and would say a comment if she like what you were wearing or looked. Again I am so sorry . -

Dottie had a fashion of constructing the most beautiful things from the simplest elements. As nature is the expression of God's thought, so art was the expression of Dottie's thought. The more closely her botanical art was patterned after nature in it's simplicity of design, the more beautiful were her creations. Dorothy was beautiful in every word and courageous in every act. And her life's most beautiful creation is her wonderful children, grandchildren and marriage to my brother Richard. May the good Lord bless and keep you Dottie, until all of us meet again. Love...George and Janet
