Obituary For Donald P. Tait Sr
Donald Parker Tait Sr., 93, of Hanover, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at home on June 10, 2026.
Born on November 23, 1932, to Lillian Gertrude Sawtelle and Gordon Samuel Tait, Donald grew up in Maine and graduated from Old Town High School. Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, where he worked as a Company Clerk. Upon returning home, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Ruth Tait (St. Louis). Together they shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.
Donald worked as a draftsman in Boston and later retired from P.X. Industries after a long and dedicated career.
Donald was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy "Dot" Tait, and his cherished son, Scott Tait. He is survived by his sons, Michael Tait and his wife Deborah, and Donald Tait Jr. and his wife Janet. He also leaves behind his five grandchildren, Dana Myles, Christopher Tait, Kevin Tait, Melissa Tait, and Christine Allen; seven great-grandchildren; his beloved cat, Petey; and his Frenchie boy, Teague.
Donald (AKA: Donzo, Papa) was an avid reader and book collector. He frequented the Hanover Library several times a week searching for that one rare book or an upgrade! He was especially fond of collecting original National Geographic magazines. He loved working on puzzles and rarely met one he could not solve. He enjoyed playing cards with his family, particularly 10-9-8 and poker. Donald looked forward to betting on the horses on Friday nights with his sons and one piece of advice, “You better back up your bet!” Music, home concerts, wine, and wine tastings were among his favorite pleasures. He also enjoyed playing Keno and scratch tickets especially at Imperial Garden’s with a Scorpion Bowl!
A passionate collector, Donald spent countless weekends visiting yard sales, the “Boutique”, and Silver Street in search of paintings, wine glasses, decanters, and that one special treasure to bring home.
Above all else, Donald treasured time spent at home with the people he loved most. His warmth, humor, and love for family will be remembered by all who knew him.
A special thank you to Loraine, his nurse from NVNA who spent every Monday for over 2 years caring for him and helping our family navigate the best possible ways for him to enjoy every last moment!
A private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Donations may be made In Memory of Donald Tait Sr.
