Obituary For Donald P. Smith
Donald Philip Smith Jr., 65, of Rockland died on July 12, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton from a lengthy illness. He was born on June 13, 1952 in Weymouth MA to Dorothy (Pratt) Fitzgerald and the late Donald Smith Sr. Donald was raised and educated in Holbrook and was a graduate of Norfolk Agricultural High School as a butcher. Donald was the husband of Tammi (Cookson) Smith of Rockland. After he graduated from Norfolk Aggie, he worked as a butcher at Howard Johnsons. Donald worked many years as a truck driver, and was a retired sheet metal worker for Electronic Sheet Metal Craftsmen Company. Donald was an avid fisherman, also enjoyed spending time watching the Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots. In addition he enjoyed collecting model cars and coins. He was part of a bowling league on Friday nights at Timberlanes for many years. Donald was the former husband of Sharon (Frye) Smith of Taunton. He leaves behind his children Melissa (Smith) Hennessy and her husband Richard of Rockland, Jennifer (Smith) Van and her husband Jack of Weymouth and Derrick A. Smith of Holbrook. He was the brother of Marjorie (Smith) Godfrey and her husband James of Holbrook. His mother in law Beverly Cookson of Rockland along with several grandchildren, a niece, a great granddaughter, and many cousins, that will dearly miss Donald. The family welcomes friends and loved ones on Sunday July 16, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM to the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, MA 02370. The family would like to invite friends and relatives following the wake at 5:00 PM to the Rockland Eagles Hall for a celebration of Donald's life at 29 Park Street in Rockland, MA 02370.
