Donald E. Smith, Sr., 72 of Rockland died at his home on March 27, 2014 surrounded by his family and cared for by the Hospice of the South Shore. He was born in Worcester, son of Stanley and Lois (Thayer) Smith and was raised and educated in Weymouth.

Don was a proud Army veteran having served at Fort Bragg. A Rockland resident since 1982, he had served as a volunteer coach for Rockland Little League and Rockland Youth Basketball. He had been a salesman at Duddy Tire Co. in Charlestown for many years.

He is survived by his wife Louise M. (Salvaggi) Smith, his mother Lois (Thayer) Smith Pearson of CO, his children, Yvonne D. Smith of Abington, Donna M. Fleury of FL, Donald E. Smith, Jr. and Jerome E. Smith both of Rockland. He was the brother of Janice Leitch of CT, Richard Pearson and Gary Pearson of CO and Barbara Malone of Carver as well as the late Stanley Smith and Elaine Healy. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A Family Graveside Funeral Service was held in the Spring Lake Cemetery in Rockland.
