Obituary For Donald Bridges

Donald Bridges passed away Christmas evening after spending the day filled with love and laughter with his family. Don was the son of Almon and Helene Bridges. After Helene’s untimely death when Don was a young boy, he was taken in and raised by his loving Uncle Everett and Aunt Elizabeth Penshorn of Jamaica Plain. He graduated from JP High School, where he played varsity hockey. After graduation he joined the family business, Boston’s oldest roofing company, Penshorn Roofing. As a young man, he married Lois Armington and together they had three children, Donna, Donald Jr and Denise. He moved his family to Norwood where they raised their children. He would spend his career, along with his brothers Stuart and Almon, building a legacy that they passed down to their sons, Don Jr., Mark, and Stu Bridges. Always a very social man, he and Lois would host summer pool parties, holiday parties and many other celebrations with family and friends. During his younger years he volunteered at Camp Hale in New Hampshire, was an active member of the Kiwanis club, and would take his children on annual ski trips all while working hard building a home and providing for his family. After his children were grown and his first marriage ended, he met and married Susan (Sue) Marvel (d2015). He gained a bonus daughter, Erin, in this union and Sue and Don would go on to welcome another child, Kaiden. They raised their children in Stoughton and would continue the Bridges tradition of hosting parties for the expanded family and friends. They often would visit Disney World and it became a very special place for bringing his children, old and young, together to build memories. Don would later move to Rockland where he would live out his remaining years. He was an avid golfer, belonging to Rockland Country Club where he would often golf with his nephews and son Don Jr., with whom he had a special bond. He would take yearly trips to Ireland with his friends and brother Stu Bridges, his best friend. As a member, he had made many friends at the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Knights of Columbus. Don had a kind heart and did not have a bad thing to say about anyone. He had a quiet way about him, yet anyone who met him walked away saying he was a great guy. His family was of great importance to him, he loved his five children and family deeply. He would always remember everyone’s birthdays, even his great-grandchildren. He wouldn’t miss a family event and especially enjoyed watching the little ones - they made him smile and laugh, this Christmas day was no exception. Don is predeceased by his brothers, Almon, Stuart and Bruce and is survived by his sister, Elaine, his children: Donna Castrechini and her husband Randall, Donald Jr., Denise Maher and her long-time companion Tom Hallahan, Erin Estevez, and her husband Lucian, and Kaiden Lambe, his grandchildren: Ryan, Megan, Coryn, Brooke, Dylan, Cassidy and Julian, his great-grandchildren: Jaxson, Avery and Aiden along with many nieces, nephews and god-children. Don was not only generous with his love, but he would often donate to numerous charities. In his memory and in lieu of flowers, his children ask that you please make a donation to your favorite charity.

The Bridges family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Donald’s life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 3, 2023 from 4:00 -7:00 PM.

Don was always a dapper gentleman . He was always so kind and genuine in character . I admired his quick wit and fast smile . His love for his children, grand children and friends was abundant. I recall his expressions of love and pride just speaking of stories and memories of his life . It was my honor to get to know the man behind his blue eyes . I am so sorry to hear of Don's passing. I worked at the Golf Course for 5 years and had the pleasure of spending time with the Bridges family. The laughter, the banter and their genuine smiles made the club a fun place to be. His kind hearted nature is what I will always remember. May your memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.
