Obituary For Dominic J Del Prete

Dominic Joseph Del Prete, 85, of Pembroke formally of Rockland. Husband of the late Patricia A. (Roberts) Del Prete. Son of the late Joseph Frances Del Prete and Anna (Umbrianna) Del Prete.

Dom was a loving and caring father to Evelyn and her husband Gary Sjolin and Dominic (Nicky) and his wife Brenda Del Prete, Jr. He was Pa to 4 grandchildren, Nicole and Michael Sjolin along with his fiancée Shelby Devanney and Jamie and Eric Del Prete. Brother to Angela and her husband Richard Gallagher, Vincent and his late wife Carol Del Prete, and MaryJo and her husband Richard Franey and many nieces and nephews.

Dom was a compassionate man, his family meant the world to him. If you called him for any reason, he would always be there willing to lend a helping hand. If his children wanted or needed something he would work extra hours. He was a very hard worker. He was a trailer truck driver employed by Christie Transfer/Andrews & Pierce Trucking in Abington driving all over the state. He belonged to The Teamsters Union Local 653 before retiring. His job was his hobby, he loved driving trucks. Many times other drivers would pay him to back in their trailers to the dock or down a tight alley… he was a pro. He plowed streets for the Town of Rockland in the winter months. Put him behind the wheel of a big rig and he was a very happy man. Dom was also a member of the Rockland Sons Of Italy and The Rockland Fraternal Order of Eagles for many years. He ran a Sunday night bowling league at the Rockland Bowling Alley for several years. He volunteered his time to the Town of Rockland Finance Committee.

He loved to go to the casinos with his wife and travel to California to visit her siblings. They took day trips to local casinos to celebrate birthdays and anniversaries or even a spur of the moment trip. He was always excited to pick up his 2 dollar lottery tickets, always hoping to hit the big one. At Christmas they were his favorite present besides seeing and spending time with his grandchildren. It would take him hours to scratch those tickets. He would always have the biggest smile while counting his winnings and couldn’t wait to cash them in and get ten more.

His grandchildren were very important to him and he was always interested in what was going on in their lives. He enjoyed attending dance recitals or school concerts for his granddaughter or watching his grandson play baseball. He was so excited when they graduated from college. He was a very proud Pa.

Dom will be truly missed by his family but is now reunited with the love of his life, Pat, his Bella.

The Del Prete family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Dom’s life in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Monday April 17, 2023 from 5:00-8:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held in the Holy Family Church in Rockland on Tuesday April 18, 2023 at 9:00 am. Burial will follow the Funeral Mass in The Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland.
