Obituary For Denise C. Curran

Denise Christine (Levangie) Curran, a 45-year resident of Rockland, MA, passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday. January 27, 2022, at the age of 67.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years Russell Curran, and two loving sons Russell and Chris of Abington and Middleboro, MA. Denise is predeceased by her oldest son Ian (2020) and her beloved grandson Russell (2016.) She is also survived by her eldest (of 3) sister Donna Smith of Ormond Beach, FL.

Mrs. Curran was born and raised in East Braintree, a mere block away from her future husband. She attended Braintree schools until marrying in September 1971. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in the Weymouth Landing neighborhood.

Denise’s life was dedicated to motherhood over the next several years. This included living in Germany with her first son while her husband was enlisted and stationed there. Her second son was born in the former West Germany. The family moved back to Braintree prior to purchasing a house in Rockland before having their third child. Beginning in 1984 she began a 25-year career working in the cafeteria system of the Rockland Public School system, most of this time as the kitchen manager of the former Rockland Junior High. She retired in 2009, and spent time doting on her only grandson.

Denise loved her family and spending time with them, whether weekends up the woods (Ponkapoag) or on the annual vacation up to Sebago. She would spend many nights with her beloved mother Violet, and loved family gatherings with all her sisters. The group of those 4 sisters together laughing could be heard for blocks. She took great pride in raising her 3 boys and being the best cook in the neighborhood (some other mothers in the neighborhood were none too happy to hear their children praising Mrs. Curran’s cooking.) Two generations of kids got a taste of that cooking in the school cafeteria, which is not always the place for fine cuisine. Aside from family, Denise took great delight in her vegetable garden and flower beds, and the joy and comfort her cats would bring her. She may be one of the last of the true suburban housewives. A throwback to an earlier time. And that is how she wanted things. Her greatest joy was in taking care of those around her.

While her later life was spent in declining health, she was always willing to give, and happy to see and feed her visitors. A small woman, of great strength, she was always fighting. For her loved ones, or for her own health, she was always ready to stand up for those who needed her.

We will greatly miss our Mother, Sister, and Wife Denise. She goes to join those who have left before her. Her parents Violet and Albert Levangie. Her sisters Dale and Diane. Her Son Ian, and her grandson Russ. Pain is over, and paradise awaits. Rejoice in the sorrow of losing this great woman.

Please join us to celebrate the life of Denise Curran. A wake shall be held at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home on Union Street in Rockland on Thursday February 3, 2022 from 4pm – 7pm, and a funeral mass shall be held on Friday February 4, 2022 at 9am at the Holy Family Church on Union Street in Rockland, MA.
