Obituary For David E. Payne

David E. Payne, Jr. 57 of Rockland died on August 23, 2017 at the Brockton Hospital after a period of failing health. He was born in Weymouth and was raised and educated in Braintree graduating from Braintree High School with the Class of 1977.

A Navy veteran, he later worked for more than 30 years as a clerk at the United States Postal Service in Cohasett until his failing health. Dave was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association and he enjoyed racing slot cars on his homemade track with his granddaughter.

Son of the late Mildred (Leavitt) Payne, he is survived by his wife, Rosanne M. (Hoffman) Payne, a daughter Danielle M. Payne and her spouse Leo F. Sheehan of Rockland, his granddaughter Alexis R. Payne of Rockland, his father David E. Payne, Sr. and his wife Debra Payne of Weymouth and a sister Sandra M. Butler of Weymouth. He was the uncle of Melissa Butler, Stephanie Sheehan, Michael Hoffman, Amanda Larkin, Melanie Hoffman and Lindsey Hoffman.

The family welcomes friends and relatives to celebrate his life on Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland from 4:00-7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at the close of the visitation Burial will be on Thursday August 31, 2017 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery at 11:30 AM. Donations in his memory may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society c/o Holy Family Church 403 Union Street Rockland, MA 02370.

    My friend just sent me the sad message of Dave's passing. I know him from Braintree High. I remember how friendly he was and always made me feel special. He had a unforgettable smile and my friend just reminded me that he called us "Dave's angels" May he rest in peace. He will always be fondly remembered. Sincere sympathy to the Payne family.

    We are so sorry for your loss. David was one of my cousins and I remember him fondly from my childhood. More recently, we had a family reunion in 2009 and it was so fun to touch base again.
