Obituary For Daniel E. Duffy

Daniel E. Duffy, Jr. (Danny Boy) joined his loving mother and father in God's care on October 24th at the Good Shepherd Manor in Momence, IL with his loving family at his side.

He was born December 2, 1948 to Anne C. and Daniel E. Duffy. Throughout his life, Danny was a very special and loving person who enriched the lives of all whom he touched. He spent 10 years at the St. Coletta School in Hanover, a school founded by Richard Cardinal Cushing and run by the Sisters of Saint Francis of Assisi.

As a teenager, he moved to the Good Shepherd Manor in Lucasville, OH where he met his lifelong friend and caregiver Brother Alphonsus Brown, or "AA", and was befriended by the Allwood family. Danny spent the last 3 decades at the Good Shepherd Manor in Momence, IL.

Danny was truly God's representative in our midst. He loved his family, friends, and everyone he met. He was forever gentle and peaceful. He had a wonderful sense of humor and, over the years, became iconic for his slinky tricks, baseball card collection, love of McDonald's cheeseburgers, and knowledge of every Three Stooges episode ever made. He had a particular talent for sign language and was one of the stars of the Good Shepherd Manor Signing Group that would travel and entertain by signing to music (New York, New York was one of his favorites). He was also a lifelong sports fan, particularly of all Boston and Chicago teams.

Danny Boy is survived by his sisters Claire Morgan (Andy, Colorado Springs, CO) and Dianne Svoboda (Mike, Newbury, MA), and brothers Brian (Jan, Houston, TX) and Timothy (Kim, Duxbury, MA)

The Duffy family welcomes friends and family to celebrate his life on Friday October 31, 2014 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, from 5:00-8:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday November 1, 2014 at Holy Family Church, Rockland, at 9:00am. Burial will follow at Holy Family Cemetery.
