Obituary For Cynthia Cyndie Foley
Cynthia (Cyndie) (Taylor) Foley, RN, age 68, of Rockland, MA, beloved daughter of the late Donald A. and Dorothy (Hawkes) Taylor, RN, of Danbury, CT, and beloved daughter-in-law of the late Isabel E. (Montgomery) Foley, RN, of Lowell, MA, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her children on October 14, 2015. Cyndie is survived by her loving children: Kathryn Foley and her husband, Reynaldo Suriel, of Rockland; Timothy Foley of Providence, RI; and Elisabeth (Foley) McCartney and her husband, Michael, of Limestone, ME; and, by her treasured grandson, Patrick.
Cyndie attended Danbury schools, Bethany College (where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi), and Cornell University-New York Hospital's School of Nursing earning her BS in Nursing in 1969. She worked at New York Hospital before relocating to Boston in 1970.
As a registered nurse in a career that spanned four decades, she devoted her working life to the care of others. Initially employed at Kennedy Memorial Hospital for Children in Brighton, MA, Cyndie later worked at Brockton Hospital as Pediatric Head Nurse, Pediatric Nursing Instructor, and Night Supervisor. Cyndie also devoted many years of her life to staying home and caring for her own children. She later did private duty pediatric nursing. In 1989, she became Allergy Nurse at ENT Specialists, Inc. and worked there until she retired in 2007.
Cyndie particularly enjoyed home life but also liked to be busy and engaged. She was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Rockland. She spent many years as a member of South Shore Registered Nurses, volunteering for the American Cancer Society, and briefly served as a Lieutenant in the US Air Force Reserve Nurse Corps. Additionally, she worked as camp nurse at Camp Satucket, school nurse at Memorial Park School, and sold Tupperware and Mary Kay Cosmetics.
She was a fantastic cook, noted for her Boston Baked Beans, sour cream coffee cake, Mommy-pizza and her iced tea. She delighted in preparing full course holiday meals to a table jammed with family and loved ones. Her home was a destination to neighborhood children, who would gather for homemade cookies and kool-aid. She also loved to feed the birds, and to go out for her favorite peach ice cream. She especially cherished family visits to her homestead, The Taylor Family Farm. One particular delight in the past couple of years was time spent with her grandson, Paddy, through the magic of Face Time.
Her love of animals was lifelong and, throughout her illness, Miss Kitty and Bella made great efforts to return the affection that she showered on them.
In addition to her immediate family, Cyndie is survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Donald A. and Karin (Johnson) Taylor, Jr., of Danbury, and by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Margaret (Foley) Hasson of Derry, Northern Ireland, as well as by her former husband, Cornelius Foley, close cousins, nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces, and many dear friends.
Her family thanks her aides from North River Home Care and the staffs of Norwell VNA/Hospice, Signature Healthcare/Brockton Hospital, Boston Medical Center, and Faulkner Hospital for their compassionate care over the years. We are most especially grateful to her dear friend of over 40 years, Dr. Jim Gilbert, who made himself available whenever needed.
We ask that, in lieu of flowers, you consider making a donation in her memory to the American Cancer Society or Boston Medical Center Department of Neurology.
The family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate her life on Sunday October 18, 2015 from 3:00-6:00 PM in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. Rockland. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2015 11:00am at the First Congregational Church in Rockland.

Although Cyndie didn't remember my climbing over the wall from Candleview Ridge and coming down to play with her so very many years ago, I still do. She was such a sweet girl. After high school we all went in so many directions but I am so glad she and her daughter joined us at our table at the DHS 50th reunion last year. Rest in peace Cyndie.
