Obituary For Claire E. Wasgatt

Claire E. (Berard) Wasgatt, 75 of Worcester, passed away on March 22nd in the home of her birth. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, George H. Wasgatt, her 6 children, AnnLouise Keegan of Shrewsbury, Susan C. Foley of Worcester, George H. Wasgatt III of Connecticut, Diane M. W. O'Connor of Agawam, Michael J. Wasgatt of Worcester, James P. Wasgatt of New Hampshire, her sister Theresa Boucher of Shrewsbury and her brother Roland Berard of Maine. She is also survived by the loves of her life, her 17 grandchildren, many neices and nephews and a close family member, Darlene O'Connor of Paxton. Claire was born in Worcester, the daughter of the late Hector and Beatrice Berard. She was predeceased by her brother Richard Berard of Medway. She was raised and educated in Worcester, living on Grafton Hill her whole life. Claire earned her nursing degree at Worcester City Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1952. She went on to earn her Master's Degree in nursing at Assumption College, Worcester, while working full time and raising her 6 children. She worked in various nursing and administrative capacities throughout Central Massachusetts, retiring from Fallon Clinic as Director of Patient Services. Despite retiring, she remained active in the nursing community as a member of the Advisory Board of the Belmont Home. Claire's greatest pleasures in life were taking her 17 grandchildren camping, cooking for the hoards at the holidays and supporting a myriad of activities at Notre Dame/ St. Joseph Parish. She was a life long parishioner of St. Joseph's Parish and a core member of the "Save St. Joseph's Committee." A Funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, March 26th in St. Joseph's Church, Hamilton St. Worcester at 10:00 AM. Burial folowed in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours in the Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St. Worcester were on Sunday, March 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. In honor of Claire's life of giving it is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to either NORD National Organization of Rare Disorders, Inc. 55 Kenosia Ave. PO Box 1968, Danbury, CT 06813-1968, or ALS Association, MA Chapter 75 McNeil Way Suite 310, Dedham, MA 02026.

    Claire was my sister's mother-in-law. She was an amazing woman. She had such a presence and grace particularly when around her children and grandchildren. We will miss her.

    To Claire's Family, Claire was a kind and beautiful woman. She made our world a better place. My thoughts and prayers are with George & her wonderful family. She loved you all so much. Heaven will now be a much happier place.

    I'll always remember walking up Warner Ave. as a young child to come and visit you and uncle George with my mom and brother. Those are happy memories. God's peace.
