Obituary For Christopher J. Cahill
Christopher J. Cahill 63 of Abington died at his home on February 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Brockton, son of the late Henry and Lucy (Conway) Cahill. Chris was raised in Abington and was a graduate of South Shore Vocational Technical High School.
Following High School, Mr. Cahill went to work for his father at their family business, Henry E. Cahill Construction where he worked for several years. He also worked for over 20 years at the Cardinal Cushing School in Hanover as a Project Manager. The children Chris cared for meant so very much to him.
Chris enjoyed riding his Harley, summers at Saquish, fishing, boating and traveling especially with his family to their vacation home in Fort Myers Florida. He also enjoyed annual trips to St. Maarten. He loved hosting friends and family poolside at his home.
Chris is survived by his loving wife Regina M. (Gaffney) Cahill. He was the father of Cara Lydon and her husband Dan of Halifax, Roxanne Fitzgerald and her husband Joseph of Hanson, Josh Cahill of Bridgewater, and the late Johanna. Brother of Patrick Cahill, Jane Selig and Peter Cahill all of Abington, Regina Getchell of Whitman, Damien Cahill of Halifax, Harry Spikes of MD, and the late Bridget Cahill. Grandfather of Sondra Kellum of Abington, Christopher Kellum of Hanson, Grace and Connor Lydon of Halifax. Son-in-law of, Evelyn Gaffney of Holbrook. Also survived by many nieces and nephews, his former wife, Eva Whitten of Halifax, and his beloved dog "Yaz." The Cahill family welcomes friends and family to celebrate Chris' life on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street Rockland, MA, from 5:00-8:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bridget's Church in Abington on Thursday February 13th at 11:00am. Services will be followed by cremation. Donations in Chris' name may be made to the Christopher Cahill Memorial Fund at the Cardinal Cushing Training Center, 405 Washington Street, Hanover, MA 02339

My heartfelt condolences to Regina and the Cahill family whose family I felt part of for the past 61 years. Whenever I think of Chris, I hear his voice, see his smile, and feel the warmth of his presence. My dear friend who fought the good fight, endured the pain, and never let me see the suffering he was going through. I will miss my visits with you Chris on my trips to Abington but you will always be with me. God has blessed me by allowing my life to be touched by you and your family. I'll see you again someday in Heaven. Save me a seat.

This weekend, while staying with my family on Plymouth beach a package washed ashore. Turns out it was a tribute of sorts to Christopher- a track suit and a Elvis quote attached a life preserving pillow. The pillow was marked with a request to hang the package, if found, on buoy #4 on Saquish beach. Together eight members of my family (two generations- cousins, aunts and uncles, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters) hopped on to our boat and traveled from Plymouth Beach to Saquish to return the memoriam to its proper place. The journey included zooming from buoy to buoy searching for #4. The entire process took about an hour and was filled with excitement and laughs. As a 23 year old, living far from her family- this was the most special moment of my summer. It was a unexpected adventure that will be remembered for a long time to come. After reading a bit about Mr. Cahill, it is very clear that he was a wonderful family man. I want to thank his family and whoever put that package on the buoy for a very special memory. Mr. Cahill's legacy as a family man has now been passed on to our family and we are very grateful for that.
