Charles W. Adams, Jr., of Hanover died on October 29, 2007 in the South Shore Hospital. He was born in Cambridge in 1924. He went Cambridge Latin School and entered Harvard University, resuming his studies there after serving in WWII as an Army coxswain on an LCT landing craft. He graduated with the class of 1946 and married Mary Bertolet (1925 to 1999) in 1947, mother of his three children. Charles earned a Master's degree in Library Science from Simmons College and worked as a librarian at Weymouth Junior High, then at the Department of Education in the Division of Library Extension, then for many years as the Director of Cambridge Public School Libraries. He was an active member of many local, state, and national library associations including NEEMA and ALA. Locally, Charles was a president of the Hanover PTA, a Hanover Library Trustee, and a member of the Catboat Association. He enjoyed reading, sailing, organic gardening, raising farm animals, watching wildlife, doing crossword puzzles, planning cruises and attending Harvard football games. Family and friends enjoyed hearing him tell stories and playing his clarinet, recorder, and maracas. He was an enthusiastic sports fan. Husband of the late Mary B. (Bertolet) Adams, he is survived by his second wife Ann C. (Cleveland) White Adams. his children, Susan A. Johnson and William B. Adams of Rockland and Charles W. Adams, III of Pembroke. He was the grandfather of Steven P. Johnson, Jr. Benjamin G. Johnson, Jennifer L. Johnson and Charles W. Adams, IV, and the great grandfather of Stephen III, William, Allyson and Benjamin, Jr. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday November 3rd at 11:00 AM in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Hanover. Calling hours in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND will be on Friday November 2nd from 5-8 PM. After cremation, burial will be in Hanover Center Cemetery.
