Obituary For Charles E. Hunt

Owego, NY; Charles Edward Hunt died on Thursday, August 29th, 2013. Charles was born in South Weymouth, Massachusetts. He graduated from Rockland, Massachusetts, High School in 1960, and then from Bridgewater State College, Bridgewater, Massachusetts, with a BS in Education degree, and later from Anna Maria College, Paxton, Massachusetts, with an MBA. He taught biology and other sciences at East Bridgewater High School, where he had also served as a temporary guidance counselor and temporary Assistant Principal. Also, he was president of the local (East Bridgewater) Teacher's Association for three years, and had served as executive secretary of the Massachusetts Student Council Association for a number of years. Charles left teaching in 1980 and worked for Angelo's supermarkets in store level and office management positions. He became Assistant Director of Personnel/Human Resources for Tedeschi Food Shops in 1986. He taught as adjunct faculty for Anna Maria College and Lesley College in their Bachelor's and Master's Programs, in both the Business Department as well as in the Criminal Justice Division, until 1996. In 1996 he became owner of the Moose Hollow General Store in East Arlington, Vermont, and in 1998 sold the store and became Director of Human Resources for Binghamton Giant Markets, Inc, in Binghamton, New York. He was currently on the HR staff of Weis Markets as a Talent Manager for the New York division. Charles was active in many local, state and national professional and vocational organizations, and had his SPHR certification. Additionally, he had attended training classes at the Boston Shiatsu School, practiced Shiatsu, and was a Reiki practitioner. He was also a professional hypnotist, and conducted classes in stress relief, smoking cessation, pain control, and other health areas. He had served as President of the Parish Council for Our Lady of the Lake in Halifax, Massachusetts, where he also taught CCD and served as a Eucharistic Minister. He was also on the Parish Council for Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine, NY, where he was a lector and a Eucharistic Minister, as well as on the Oktoberfest Committee and authored the parish newsletter. Charles conducted Communion Services as needed for Most Holy Rosary Church. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council # 11621, of Most Holy Rosary Church. He had done volunteer counseling work in the drug addiction center at Bridgewater State Correctional Institute in the 1970's, and was a current volunteer in the "Faith in Action" programs for the Broome County Council of Churches. Charles is survived by three sisters: Marsha Poole Hunt of East Sandwich, MA, Elaine Chandler and her husband, Gary, of Swanzey, NH, and Kathleen Veytia and her husband, Charles, of San Diego, CA; two brothers: Stephen Hunt and his wife, Susan, of Rockland, MA, and Kevin Hunt, also of Rockland. He is also survived by many cousins, several nieces and nephews, and a great nephew, Bentley Stephen Hunt, of Rockland, MA. Additionally, he is survived by two aunts: Ms. Mildred Hunt of Rockland, MA, and Judith Bleicher of Connecticut; and an uncle: Warren Najarian, of Rockland, MA. He was the son of the late Marguerite E (Poole) Hunt, the late Mary (Smith) Hunt (stepmother), and the late Charles T Hunt – all of Rockland, Massachusetts. Charles was known for his love of animals, especially dogs, and almost always had at least one in his home – and others that he had rescues and found homes for them. Additionally, he enjoyed being a Red Sox fan in "Yankee territory" while working at Giant Markets. The Hunt family welcomes friends and loved ones to celebrate his life at a Memorial Mass that will be held at Holy Family Church in Rockland, Massachusetts on September 14th at 9am.

    Charlie you were a great teacher, friend and mentor. On Aug 28th I was at Bridgewater State for orientation. I am returning to finish my teaching degree. We all had to write what teacher influenced us the most, and it was you. I hope I can pass on Biology knowledge as well as you did. Rest in Peace my friend.

    Steve,Sue,Kevin and Family, I am sorry to hear of the passing of your brother, Charlie. In reading his obit I came to realize how much he had accomplished in his life and how much of a positive influence he was on so many, especially younger, people. A life well-lived. Condolences to you all.

    Charlie touched so many lives and left such a positive imprint. I remember his warm smile and easy laugh. My thoughts and prayers to family and friends. I knew Charlie as a student at EBHS, neighbor on Robins Pond, as well as HR at Tedeschi Food Shops.

    Aaah Mr. Hunt....loved you as a teacher and cherished you as a friend! The Rugg family so enjoyed the exchange students you brought into our lives and the best year of Sandy's life was the year she spent as an exchange student in Chile as coordinated by you and Mr McGowan! RIP
