Obituary For Charlene McDonald

On Thanksgiving Eve, November 24, 2021, Charlene H. McDonald (Dwyer) (Wentworth) of Abington passed unexpectedly into eternal life.

Charlene, born on July 25, 1944, was the daughter of the late Charles Dwyer and Helen Dwyer. She was the loving wife of the late Ivan McDonald. Charlene leaves behind her children Colleen Whalen of Pembroke, Kenneth Wentworth and his wife Patricia of Whitman and Tammy McKenna and her husband Ed of East Bridgewater. She will be greatly missed by her boyfriend and companion of many years, Mike Zack of Abington. Charlene is also survived by her sister Anne Thomas and her husband Joseph of Rochester, New Hampshire, brother Ronald Dwyer and his wife Lynda of Weymouth and is predeceased by sisters Betty Ann Pike and Helen “Sis” Jurio.

Also survived by half-sister Kathy Johnson of East Bridgewater, half-brother Scott Dwyer of Bridgewater and stepmother Flora Dwyer of Brockton. Charlene was lovingly referred to as Nana by her prides and joys, her grandchildren, Danny and Brian Whalen, Matthew Wentworth and his wife Kelly, Cameron Wentworth, Patrick and Ryan McKenna. She will also be missed by several nieces and nephews and countless friends.

Charlene’s greatest fulfillment and joy was found in her devoted service to the community and to others. She was the first Director of the Germantown Neighborhood Center, Victim’s Advocate for District Attorney Delahunt’s Office and worked for Bay State Community Health Services before retiring in 2011.

Her family welcomes your remembrances and shared grief during visiting hours on Tuesday, from 5-8pm and to the Mass of Christian Burial in the Holy Family Church in Rockland on Wednesday at 11am (funeral home at 10am) to prayerfully send Charlene home to our Lord before internment at Pine Hill Cemetery in Quincy where Charlene will rest peacefully with her beloved Ivan.

In lieu of flowers donations in Charlene’s name can be made to the Saint Boniface Haiti Foundation, 40 Glen Avenue, Newton, MA 02349.

    I met Charlene many years ago through my Aunt, Mary Fitzgerald. To say she was kind and thoughtful would be an understatement. To her family and friends, I pray you find comfort in knowing she will always be guiding you. To Charlene, I pray you find eternal peace with our Lord.
