Obituary For Celine M. Newell
Celine M. Newell, 92, of Rockland, MA, passed away at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital on July 7, 2023, surrounded by herloved ones. Beloved Wife, Mother, Daughter, Gram, MeMe and Friend. She was born on April 2, 1931, in Quincy, MA.
Celine is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Edward L. Newell, she is survived by her five children, Thomas and his wife Kathy Newell of Rockland, MA, Elisa Chandler and her husband Mark Chandler of Rockland, MA, Eric and his wife Lynn Newell of Hanover, MA, Celine Newell and her ex-husband Victor Breda of Middleboro, MA, Peter and his wife Karen Newell of Rockland, MA. She is survived by 11 grandchildren, David, Kerri, Crystle, TJ, Michelle, Matt, Kristin, Nicole, Melissa, Jared, and Victoria. She is also survived by 15great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Celine was the daughter and only child of Thomas M. Costigan and Alice M. Costigan (Sullivan).
Celine was an extremely talented artist. She attended the Vesper George School of Art. She was the owner of Newell Art Studio in Rockland, MA for many years where she taught chinapainting, watercolor and porcelain doll making. She had been featured in multiple china painting magazines over the years and was well known for her hand painted tile murals. She spent her last teaching years teaching watercolor in Hobe Sound, FL and was still teaching at the age of 90. She relocated back to Middleboro, MA in November 2021.
Celine enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed many things like playing golf, solitaire, and mahjong, watching the birds, reading, ice cream and an occasional glass of Wild Turkey, but most of all she loved to paint. Her charity of choice was the Breast Cancer Society.
Services will be private.
