Obituary For Carol A. Dickinson
On April 5, 2025, Carol Dickinson passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, after a long battle with dementia. Carol was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on October 18, 1940, to Ralph Scott and Ann Londergan Scott.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy; grandchildren Gregory Asci and his fiancée, Colleen Albert, Jennifer Asci, and Kristen Asci and her husband, Nicholas Macfarland. She is also survived by her devoted and faithful dog, Harley, as well as her caregiver and companion, Denise Smith, who helped Carol on a daily basis and supported the family during the last 22 months of her life. She was the aunt to many nieces and nephews and was loved by many friends and family throughout the years. She was predeceased by her sons, Robert Scott Dickinson and Brian Dickinson.
Carol was a lifelong nurse, and her career began at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1977. She went on to have a career spanning over 25 years at the hospital, starting as an LPN and later becoming an RN after receiving her registered nurse degree. She was a team player—energetic, high-spirited, devoted— and always cared for her patients as if they were family. She was highly respected by her peers and friends. She became a charge nurse on an orthopedic floor after graduating with her RN and later became the head nurse of the PACU department. Upon her retirement from Shattuck in 2002, she went on to do home care nursing at Partners, based in Rockland, where she also excelled and was a wonderful nurse to patients in their homes, until her retirement in 2011. She was loved by many friends and colleagues she made along the way. She had a warm, generous, and kind heart and cared for thousands of patients throughout her long nursing career.
Carol enjoyed socializing with friends and family. In her spare time, she loved to shop, sometimes spending several hours out and about when she went “rogue!” She was also an avid reader, enjoying many books and novels, as well as reading the newspaper and completing the daily crossword puzzles and word jumbles with ease. Additionally, she loved to crochet, making many afghans, baby blankets, outfits, and scarves for many members of her family.
She was also an excellent cook who would find a recipe in the newspaper, go out to buy all the ingredients, and prepare it for the meal that night! Many of her recipes are still enjoyed to this day, thanks to the recipe book she passed down to her family.
Her passing leaves a void in all of us that will never be filled, but her loving spirit will always continue to inspire and guide us. Carol’s memory will be forever cherished and honored by the many lives she touched along the way, and her remarkable life story will be recounted with affection and admiration for generations to come.
Visiting hours will be held at the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home at 135 Union St, Rockland, MA, on Friday, April 18th, from 4–7 p.m. A private burial will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity that was close to Carol’s heart, such as the ASPCA or any Alzheimer's/dementia charity of your choosing. You may also donate in memory of Carol to the Friends of the Council on Aging, where she attended a day program for dementia.

Carol, You were like a mom to a lot of us. I loved living next door to you. Your home was always open for us to come into. We felt so welcome. You raised 3 great people and we've got so many good memories. I'm sad to see you leave this earth but I am happy to have been a small part of your life. I can't wait to share memories with your family and friends this weekend. Love, Kurt
