Obituary For Bill MacDonald

Paying Tribute to a Legendary Man: Bill MacDonald (1955-2024)

Garfield William MacDonald, affectionately known as “Bill” gave his first smile to the world on December 9, 1955, the son of Garfield S. MacDonald and Annabelle MacDonald. The majority of his years were spent in the town of Rockland where as a young man he attended and graduated from Rockland High School. His journey led him to the love of his life, Teresa MacDonald (Caradonna), who he married and they shared a beautiful life together of 37 years.

Bill was proud of his family consisting of 5 beautiful children, Heather, Troy, Stephen, Kevin, and Kristine. 13 precious grandchildren who he adored and was always impressed by.

Bill was a mechanic by trade, a handyman who loved to tinker in his garage and out in his yard. You never found him sitting idle inside. Every night, Bill would enjoy the solace and skies sitting by his infamous burner barrel, with a cold Bud Light and tunes that lifted his spirit. His younger years may have been reckless, but he aged with a zest for life that never dwindled. And although Bill was not a man of many words, and had a demeanor as tough as nails, when he shared his heart you quickly saw it was made of gold and full of love.

We were sad to learn that in the spring of 2022, Bill was diagnosed with stage IV esophageal, cancer. Although this terrible news could have devastated Bill, with grit and grace he pulled up his proverbial bootstraps and had other plans. With a zeal for life and to the testimony of his stubborn persistence, Bill fought, and lived harder than ever, continuing to tinker, and laugh, and work in his yard and of course, always welcoming the company of his friends and family with a smile!

In his final days, Bill was surrounded by those same family members and friends. The evening before his passing was spent laughing and joking by his side while watching home videos. In the quiet of the night of August 30th, 2024, Bill took his last breath. He was in his home next to his loving wife Teresa with his head on his pillow resting peacefully, where he had spent each night for the past 30+ years.

Bill's life stories and cherished memories could fill the pages of a book, leaving a legacy that will endure through the generations. His absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He was, indeed, a legendary man.

Bill’s family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate his life on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home.

Bill left us a lot of wonderful memories! He was a great brother-in-law to me and would always go all out to help me and many other people. He always fixed up my junk heap cars. He didn't want other mechanics taking advantage of me. Bill and Terri went all out on holidays, especially on July 4'th. They'd have a big cookout, horseshoes, volleyball and bocci. Then he'd hitch up the trailer to the tractor and give the children a hayride around the property. Fireworks followed. Bill. Your work is done. You can go home now and rest.

One of my memories was playing horseshoes against Bill. Simply put, he brought out the best of me in those pits because he was simply one of the very best I've ever played against. In addition, I had some great 1 on 1 talks with Bill. We had a mutual respect for one another and I'll always be grateful for those times. See you in awhile my brother.❤️
