Obituary For Bernard "Ed" Wyman

Bernard (known to everyone as "Ed") attended Norwell schools up to grade 9 when he left school to work on his Uncle's farm. He met his late wife Rosemary Garrigan at a local dance in Hanson and they married February 13, 1949 at the First Congregational Church of Hanson He had four children and lived in Norwell on High Street where he continued his farming for 47 years - his labor of love. The 10 acre vegetable farm known as "Prairie Hall Farm" - had customers that traveled from all over the state just to purchase his "famous corn and tomatoes" along with several other types of vegetables. In the spring, he and his wife planted and sold vegetable and flower plants in two greenhouses to local customers before planting began for the farm by the end of each May. Farming was a family affair to which both Ed and Rosemary stated "they could not have operated the farm without the help of their kids". In addition to the farm, "Ed" worked his full time job for Anderson Insulation in Abington for 50 years serving as a Project Manager handling numerous jobs throughout the state of Massachusetts and the New England states. Mr. Wyman cared deeply about how he did his job to which Eric Anderson quoted stating "he cared about doing the right thing". Even after he retired from Anderson Insulation he continued to do consultations on jobs. He was an avid football fan and loved the New England Patriots. In 2000, Ed moved to South Meadow Village in Carver where he continued his gardening and had a smaller garden and sold his "tomatoes" to the villagers. He also, became a caretaker to which he took on small outdoor jobs and mowed lawns for customers.

So many trips down the street for corn, tomatoes, etc. But what I remember most is the stories and the laughs. Loved both Rose and Ed! Loved Ed's smile and his laugh. He will be missed!

Eddie's willingness to share his many years of experience and witnessing his very strong work ethic were of great value to so many of us. He also told great stories and had a tremendous laugh. Ed was a top shelf guy.

Very nice write-up. Will miss "The Tomato Man". He helped a lot of us single women around our houses here in the Village. His tomato's were the best!

One of our favorite customers. We alway enjoyed his company. We never had to ask him what he wanted to eat, because we always ordered the same sandwich (roast beef on light rye NO MAYO). His family was totally devoted to him. Annmarie, Cynthia and Cathleen, everyone at Plane Jane's are thinking of you at this difficult time. He will be sadly missed.
